Jurgen Klopp tips Arne Slot for Liverpool's 'best job in the world'
Jurgen Klopp believes Arne Slot will inherit the "best job in the world" if he is to succeed him as Liverpool manager.
Former midfielder Slot spent his playing career in the Netherlands with Zwolle, Sparta Rotterdam and Breda.
After moving into coaching roles at Cambuur and then AZ Alkmaar, Slot stepped up into the manager’s job with the latter for the 2019/20 season with AZ finishing second behind Ajax on goal difference in the shortened campaign.
Slot left for Feyenoord in December 2020, succeeding Dick Advocaat, and brought former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin van Persie onto his staff.
In May 2022, Feyenoord reached the first Europa Conference League final, losing to Roma, and finished third in the Eredivisie.
Slot’s second season at De Kuip saw Feyenoord win the Eredivisie title – the first for the club since 2017.
Feyenoord beat NEC Nijmegen to lift the 2024 KNVB Cup after their last cup Dutch cup victory came in 2018.
Slot began his playing career with FC Zwolle in 1995 as a 17-year-old playing for seven years with over 150 appearances in his first stint for the club.
He won one award with the club, which was the Dutch second division title in 2002, the Eerste Divisie.
Slot moved to NAC Breda, playing between the years 2002-2007, making around 142 league appearances.
He had brief spell with Sparta Rotterdam up until 2010 before going on loan back to FC Zwolle and then making the move permanent.
He won one more Eerste Divisie title in 2012, returning to the Eredivisie for his final season as a player, retiring with his first club.
After retiring, Slot began his coaching career in the PEC Zwolle youth set up before taking up coaching roles with Cambuur and AZ Alkmaar.
He became manager of AZ in the 2019/20 season, finishing second to Ajax on goal difference but the league title was not awarded due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Slot was sacked the following season in December 2020 before joining Feyenoord in the same month.
With Feyenoord, he won the league title two season later, the KNVB Cup the season after and was runners up in the UEFA Conference League in 2022.
While at AZ, Slot took his side into the Europa League – where they played Manchester United in 2019.
After moving to Feyenoord, Slot guided the club to the Europa Conference League final in May 2022.
Eredivisie success brought with it a crack at the Champions League for 2023/24.
Despite beating Celtic and Lazio in their group, the Dutch side did not qualify for the knockout stage and then lost out to Roma in the Europa League play-off round.
