Former two-weight world champion offers to help Tyron Woodley prepare for Jake Paul

The 32-0 Olympic Gold Medallist has “reached out” to offer guidance to Woodley ahead of his crossover fight against Paul…

Andre Ward has offered to help Tyron Woodley as he prepares to fight YouTube star Jake Paul.
It was revealed this week that Woodley would be the latest MMA star to step into the boxing ring to face Paul.
The YouTuber has a 3-0 record as a professional boxer. He has previously beaten fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and former NBA star Nate Robinson.
Then in April, he fought Ben Askren. The MMA veteran won world titles both in Bellator and ONE Championship.

Askren was an esteemed grappler, but he was never renowned as a skilled boxer. Paul was able to stop him inside the first round at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

This fight with Woodley is another step up for Paul. The 39-year-old beat Robbie Lawler via TKO in 2016 to become the UFC welterweight champion.

Woodley successfully defended his title four times before he lost to Kamaru Usman in March 2019. He has not won since as he followed that up with defeats to Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington and Vicente Luque.

Woodley vs Paul will headline a Showtime PPV card on August 28. The professional boxing bout will be an eight-round contest.

Speaking during an Instagram Live (as cited by Boxing Scene), Woodley warned Paul that he will break his jaw:

"We gonna break some records, and I'm going to break a motherf------ jaw while I'm at it. Get ready to make motherf------ history. Breaking records."
Woodley later added that he has "always wanted to box" and that Ward has offered to help him prepare:
"I always wanted to box my whole life, never did it," Woodley said. "I always wanted to box. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. It's crazy how things happen. I started doing MMA in 2005 because I was like I'm too old to just box. I was 23 years old out of college wrestling, so I did MMA. I'm like sh-t, I can wrestle and punch."
"Obviously, Eric Brown, he's been my boxing coach forever. He's going to be my chief second. He's going to be the No. 1 guy in the training camp. Got a lot of other people that reached out to me.
"Andre Ward, my dog, reached out. I cannot miss the opportunity [to work with him], it would be an honor and a blessing. Find some time to work with Andre Ward as well. After that, I'll know more today."

Can Woodley silence Paul?

Paul is the biggest supervillain in boxing right now. Those within boxing and UFC have been quick to offer their support to Woodley ahead of this fight.

You may hate the YouTuber, but you have to admire him. He is playing his role perfectly as whether you are a boxing fan or not, you are desperate for someone to silence him.

While he keeps winning, the hate will only grow. He can fight at least a little bit, which served him well against his past opponents.

The Woodley fight is his toughest yet. Even though his opponent has lost four times in a row, Paul would still be making a huge statement if he wins.

The influencer will be the favourite against Woodley, but if the MMA star wins, he will be considered a hero in the combat sports world.

Paul will be beaten eventually. It might take a few more fights, but it will happen. But by then, he would have made millions while making a lasting impact on the sport. So fair play to him...
