XAVIER (1) wound up strongly last time out to finish a head adrift in second over 6½f at Ararat. Mitchell Aitken has registered two minor placings when on board. Among the leading chances. BIG TOWN (3) has been out of the placings in two runs since a break, the latest when ninth, beaten 4.5 lengths, over 6f at Horsham. Should be peaking now and is ready to show what he can do. GETONIT (6) turned in a modest performance when fourth last time out over 6f at Mt Gambier, beaten 4 lengths. That followed a win at Mt Gambier at the previous outing. Meets some better types this time but a better run will not surprise. PONTMEIRION (4) finished third at Avoca two runs back but didn't measure up last time over 7f at Horsham, finishing 5.5 lengths back in seventh. Finds a nice race and can bounce back.
