F1 Fantasy Fights: Should Horner be afraid of the Big Bad Wolff?

Planet Sport looks at some of the biggest rivalries in the sport, including the heated rivalry between Toto Wolff and Christian Horner.

Lewis Hamilton has suggested team bosses Toto Wolff and Christian Horner should settle their differences in a boxing match.
The seven-time world champion is currently battling Red Bull's Max Verstappen for this year's title and trails the Dutchman by 32 points.
Silverstone marks round 10 of the season and while the pressure is ramping up, the duo have remained professional in front of the media.

The same cannot be said about Wolff and Horner, though. A war-of-words has broken out between the two chiefs and Hamilton feels 'we should get them in the ring'.

We can't exactly force them to lace up a pair of gloves, but we can create some fantasy fights from the F1 circuit, and that's exactly what we've done.

Wolff vs Horner

Two alpha males who are used to winning - this would be the main event. Between them, they have won 22 titles but there is no doubt that Wolff is currently the Pound for Pound best having won every title in his seven seasons involved at Mercedes.

Wolff is yet to lose a World Drivers' Championship or a Constructors Championship which, we guess, makes him the Floyd Mayweather of the sport.

However, this season there could be a change in the guard with Red Bull leading both competitions. When Horner told his opposite number to keep his mouth shut in June, Wolff responded by saying Red Bull's Team Principal was 'a bit of a windbag who wants to be on camera'.
The truth is, while Horner can talk the talk, he would not be able to handle the size and reach of his German rival.

VERDICT: Wolff to win by KO

Hamilton vs Bottas

It is no secret who the top dog is here. Hamilton has won six of his seven world titles at Mercedes and holds more race wins than Michael Schumacher overall. The Brit is in an unusual position of not being the favourite to add another world title this year, but at odds of around 11/4 there may have never been a better time to back him.

The Briton is considered as the greatest driver of all-time. In contrast to Hamilton's unprecedented success, Valtteri Bottas has been inconsistent since joining Mercedes in 2017.
Despite two runner-up finishes in 2019 and 2020, this season Bottas has disappointed behind the wheel and is currently in fifth position behind Verstappen, Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Lando Norris.

Hamilton has spent time with boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez on the pads prior to the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix and based on what we have seen, we are backing him to outwit Bottas with his ring IQ.

VERDICT: Hamilton to win on points

Verstappen vs Ocon

This is personal.

The rivalry stretches back to 2014 when Esteban Ocon beat Verstappen to the European Formula 3 title. In 2018, the feud was reignited when Verstappen - leading the Brazilian Grand Prix - collided with Ocon on lap 44.

The Frenchman was handed a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for his involvement in costing Verstappen victory. After the race, in which Verstappen finished second behind Hamilton, he confronted Ocon for costing him a famous win in Brazil.
Max Verstappen vs Esteban Ocon
"What I am really surprised about is his behaviour after the race," Ocon said. "We went on the scales and he started to push me and wanted to punch me and stuff. This is not proper."
Verstappen is a fiery competitor but showing emotion in the ring can prove costly and we think it would be his downfall.

Back Max Verstappen to record the fastest lap at the British Grand Prix at around 6/5 here.

VERDICT: Ocon to win by TKO

Norris vs Russell

An all-British showdown is always an intriguing contest. Lando Norris and George Russell are two of the good guys in Formula 1.

Norris has the edge in terms of experience with 47 race starts at McLaren compared to Russell's 26 under Williams.

Norris has come of age in 2021, and currently sits fourth in the standings with 101 points, nine more than Bottas in fifth. He has achieved three podium finishes this season at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Monaco and the Austrian Grand Prix.

While Russell has not reached the dizzy heights of Norris this year, he did stand in for Hamilton at the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix. Having qualified in second position for the race, a mechanical error and a slow puncture saw him finish ninth.

VERDICT: A draw

Schumacher vs Mazepin

Two team-mates looking to make a statement of intent to prove their worth on the circuit. One is a second-generation racer while the other is the son of a multi-millionaire businessman.

Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin both drive under the Haas banner but have yet to chalk up any points since joining the team.

The underwhelming performances have created tension between the two and they were forced to 'clear the air' after Mazepin tried to 'kill' Schumacher on the last lap of the Azerbaijan race.

Continuing the legacy of Michael Schumacher will have added extra pressure for Mick, just like it does for Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn in the ring. Their respective fathers are two-division world champions Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn.

However, because of the famous surname, we expect the judges to give the Swiss born German the nod on the scorecards.
