Monaco vs Lille tips and predictions: Visitors to leapfrog hosts and seize second place

Monaco and Lille are in direct competition for the Champions League spots, with the teams separated by only three points before Wednesday’s meeting.

On Sunday night, Monaco took on Brest, who were second in the league table at the time and picked up a crucial win away from home.

Denis Zakaria and Takumi Minamino scored the crucial goals but the visitors lost two players as Ben Seghir and Wilfried Singo were sent off in added time.

In their last game at home, Monaco managed a 1-0 win against Rennes, with the only goal scored by Maghnes Akliouche in the first half, which is their only win in their seven home matches.

Despite their recent struggles, they sit on 55 points after 29 games and remain second in the table. A win against Lille will almost guarantee their place in next season's Champions League. 

After being defeated in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals by Aston Villa on Thursday night, Lille rebounded in Ligue 1 with a 1-0 victory at home over Strasbourg, thanks to a goal from Jonathan David.

It was Lille’s third straight win in Ligue 1 where they are undefeated since 25 February when they lost 3-1 at Toulouse.

After 29 games, Lille have 52 points and occupy fourth place in the league table. Brest are two points ahead of them having played one game more.

In the most recent meeting between these two teams, Lille secured a 2-0 victory against Monaco in October 2023. The previous encounter played in Monaco resulted in a 0-0 draw.
