Fiorentina vs Atalanta tips and predictions: Nothing to separate La Viola and La Dea in Coppa Italia

Tenth-placed Fiorentina will face off against Atalanta, who are sixth in Serie A. Both teams have had an underwhelming season to date.

The second leg will take place in Bergamo three weeks from now with the winners facing either Juventus or Lazio in Rome.

Last year’s Coppa finalists Fiorentina lost 2-1 to AC Milan which ended a four-game unbeaten streak for La Viola.

Vincenzo Italiano’s team will struggle to qualify for European football via the traditional method so success in the Cup is their best chance.

In the quarter-finals they beat Bologna on penalties and then had to come back from 2-0 against Parma, scoring twice in the final minutes and winning on penalties.

Atalanta managed an important win last weekend. Their 3-0 win against Napoli, their first in five matches, kept them in Champions League contention.

They’ve been in better form in cup competition as the 2019 and 2021 finalists wriggled past AC Milan, 2-1, and beat Sassuolo 3-1.

They’ve struggled against Fiorentina though, losing each of the last two meetings.

They have also had the upper hand in cup competition, winning both legs in their last quarter-final meeting.
