Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig tips and predictions: Goals on the menu as Bulls add to champions’ woes

Taking top billing in this weekend’s Bundesliga action is Saturday’s top-five clash between champions Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig (1730 GMT). Tipstrr's Sergiu Baltuta takes a closer look.

Second plays fifth at Allianz Arena with the Bavarians struggling after suffering the rare occurrence of three straight competitive defeats to leave the Bundesliga’s absolute champions of the last decade in very real danger of losing the title for the first time in 12 years.

After losing 3-0 to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen and 1-0 to Lazio in the Champions League, Bayern opened the scoring against bottom-half outfit Bochum last week, only to allow their hosts to score three times, and a late Harry Kane goal was not enough to rescue a point.

The team led by Thomas Tuchel remains eight points adrift of Leverkusen and that could well be 11 by the time Bayern’s game kicks off, should Xabi Alonso’s side see off Mainz as expected on Friday night. 

On the other side, Leipzig quickly got over their 1-0 Champions league defeat to Real Madrid, managing a 2-0 win at home against Gladbach, after goals scored by Xavi Simons and Lois Openda.

Before that, Leipzig had drawn 2-2 with Augsburg and beaten Union Berlin 2-0, leaving Marco Rose’s team fifth in the Bundesliga, one point behind Borussia Dortmund.

These two teams have faced each other 15 times in the Bundesliga and as expected the Bavarians have dominated with seven wins, with six draws and two losses. 

The reverse fixture in September saw the Bulls take a 2-0 lead at half time after goals scored by Openda and Lukeba, but the guests managed to rescue a point in the second half after goals scored by Harry Kane and  Leroy Sane.
