Betting Preview: Derby County vs QPR – Rams to frustrate another promotion contender

Derby County face a top six opponent for the third game in a row as their herculean battle for survival continues.

Wayne Rooney has faced some major obstacles during his short time as Derby manager, but that hasn't deterred him from mounting what could be a miraculous survival bid.

The Rams - who are bottom of the table - won four points from their last two games against league leaders Fulham and second-placed Bournemouth. A win over QPR would set the team up well ahead of a busy Christmas period.

Best bets for Derby vs QPR

Match to end in a draw at 23/10

Under 2.5 goals at 3/4

Tom Lawrence to score anytime at 5/2

Following an impressive summer transfer window, many expected Queens Park Rangers to mount a serious promotion challenge.

Mark Warburton's side lived up to the billing in the early weeks of the season but inconsistencies did appear throughout September and October.

During those two months, QPR won just four of 12 games as they slid down the Championship standings and bowed out of the Carabao Cup.
However, business is beginning to pick up for the London outfit. As things stand, QPR are on a five-match unbeaten run and have won three of their last four games.
Victory over Derby would take Rangers into third place - just eight points behind league leaders Fulham. But then again, winning away at Pride Park is far easier said than done.
Despite their obvious problems, the Rams are on a bit of a high after upsetting Fulham and Bournemouth in consecutive matches.

Few expect Rooney's men to overturn their 21-point deduction and retain their Championship status. That profound lack of pressure and expectations could be attributed their recent upturn in results.

Considering both teams are on a good run of form, our opening selection is to back the draw at a very respectable price of 23/10.

Last 10 head-to-heads

Derby wins: 5
Draws: 3
QPR wins: 2
Derby goals: 11
QPR goals: 6

Don't expect a goal fest

Historically, this is not a fixture that tends to produce many goals. Their last 10 head-to-head encounters have only produced 17 efforts - an average of 1.7 goals per game.
If that wasn't enough, both teams are currently struggling to score more than one goal per game.
Derby, for instance, have scored exactly one goal in four of their last six Championship games. Rangers, meanwhile, have scored once in seven of their last eight league outings.

With those numbers in mind, our second selection is to back the under 2.5 goals bet.

Goalscorer bets for Derby vs QPR

QPR's Ilias Chair comes into Monday's game after scooping up Championship's Goal of the Month award.
The Morocco international was recognised for his effort against Blackburn - a spectacular long-range strike which also proved to be the winner in a tight 1-0 contest.
The 24-year-old has been impressive for Rangers having already scored six league goals. With Chair priced at a tempting 13/5, he's likely to have no shortage of backers.
When it comes to the Rams, it's Tom Lawrence who has caught our attention at 5/2.
The 27-year-old scored a brace against Bournemouth a couple of games ago. What's more, the player has produced six goal involvements across the last seven games.

With numbers like that, he is also going to be a popular selection in this market.
