Women’s Super League: York Valkyrie and Leeds Rhinos set up mouthwatering Grand Final rematch

York Valkyrie and Leeds Rhinos will meet in the Women’s Super League Grand Final for the second successive season after both enjoyed hard-fought semi-final victories.

Leeds edged York 12-4 to win the 2022 Grand Final and lift the title for the second time in their history.

The Valkyrie will now have an opportunity to set the record straight after booking their spot in the season finale.

Lindsay Anfield’s side were forced to come back from behind to beat Wigan Warriors 22-6 at the LNER Community Stadium.

Woman of Steel Tara Stanley scored ten of the points as Liv Whitehead, Liv Gale and Lacey Owen joined her on the scoresheet.

Defending champions Leeds Rhinos, on the other hand, secured their final sport courtesy of a dramatic 20-16 golden point victory over St Helens.

Sophie Robinson scored the deciding effort after dropping onto Caitlin Casey’s kick to the corner as the Rhinos recovered from a 10-point deficit early in the second half to triumph in the extra period.

Tries from Caitlin Beevers and Lucy Murray helped drag the Rhinos level before a rare mistake by Shona Hoyle from the kick-off at the start of added time gave them their winning chance.

Robinson duly sealed a fifth straight Grand Final place for her side, and a repeat of last year’s final against York which will take place on October 8.
