Lightweight preview: Andy Cruz to continue dominance in Tokyo

The Cuban is unbeaten in 23 fights and has won two World Championships in 2017 and 2019.

The Frenchman has an outstanding amateur pedigree.
He has won gold medals at the 2017 World Championships and claimed silver at the 2016 Olympic Games.

His run in Rio included a victory over current unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez - the last time the American has lost, with victory over boxing great Vasyl Lomachenko being his most recent.

He has also beaten the likes of Joe Cordina and Luke McCormack but faces a tough draw with Keyshawn Davis a likely opponent in the second round.

The Cuban is expected to continue his fine form from the last few of years which has seen him win two world titles.

His last defeat was in 2019 to Oumiha but is on a 23-fight winning streak, which includes a win against Keyshawn Davis. A rematch with Davis could be on the cards in the final.

Fast hands and exceptional movement inside the ring, it's hard to look past the skilled 25-year-old.

One to watch: Luke McCormack

The Team GB fighter won gold at the 2018 EU Championships and won bronze at the 2019 European Games.

McCormack, twin brother of Pat McCormack who is also at this summer's Olympics, takes on Manish Kaushik in the opening round.

Should McCormack progress, he faces Cruz in the second round.
The Sunderland star will need to bring his A game if he is to somehow cause an upset and beat the favourite.
