Jannik Sinner v Arthur Rinderknech
Sinner marked his return from his three-month suspension with a run to the Italian Open final. Clearly, the short break didn’t do the number one seed much harm.
For Arthur Rinderknech this is the worst possible draw considering he is currently experiencing the toughest phase of his career. With only seven match wins this year, his chances of progressing to the second round are rather bleak.
We’re backing Sinner to get the job done in straight sets.
Madison Keys v Daria Saville
Australian Open champion Madison Keys will be looking to make a serious dent at the Roland Garros considering she hasn’t progressed past the fourth round in five years.
Daria Saville defeated Heather Watson and Taylor Townsend in the qualifiers but faces a far tougher challenge in the first round. The Australian has struggled with injuries and poor results in recent times, leaving us with no choice but to side with Keys.
TIP: Key to win – 1/20
Polina Kidermetova v Jelena Ostapenko
Jelena Ostapenko has a love-hate relationship with the French Open. The Latvian won her only grand slam at Roland Garros back in 2017 but has been eliminated in the first or second rounds in six of the last seven years.
Polina Kudermetova has only made a couple of main draw appearances – both at the Australian Open.
The 21-year-old is only in the infancy of her pro career and we’re backing the experience of Ostapenko to be the decisive factor.
Naomi Osaka v Paula Badosa
Since making her main draw debut at the French Open, Paula Badosa has never done worse than the third-round.
The Spaniard enjoyed a strong start to the year, reaching the Australian Open semi-final, and will be looking to make a serious dent in Paris.
Naomi Osaka, who is normally at her best on hard-courts, has loved her time on clay in recent times. The Japanese star reached the fourth round of the Italian Open and won a 125k title in France – her first clay tournament win.
This has the makings of a really good game and we’re backing over 2.5 sets.
