Why David Haye could be a welcomed addition to the Matchroom empire.

As we enter the next decade in boxing, one thing for sure is that Eddie Hearn will continue being a busy man. As well as promoting marquee events in the UK, Hearn hopes to expand Matchroom Boxing alongside DAZN in several territories worldwide, which Spain and Italy in addition to the North American territories.

Does Hearn get much sleep? Probably not.

LA, New York, Las Vegas, Arizona, Milan, London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Diriyah are just some of the places to have staged boxing events under the Matchroom banner last year.
In 2020, expect Hearn to focus more of his time across the Atlantic, though, as he attempts to break America and overtake the likes of Bob Arum and Al Haymon as the face of promoting.

While Matchroom see Golden Boy as a competitor, they are both exclusive to DAZN in the US which means they'll more than likely collaborate a few times in 2020. Then again, even if he doesn't get on with Arum, he'll certainly do business with him as his main asset Anthony Joshua gets set to take on Kubrat Pulev next.
When Hearn announced boxing's first ever billion-dollar deal with DAZN, I remember asking him about whether he would take his eye of the ball in the UK and he assured me that he wouldn't and in fairness, he's balanced his hectic schedule.
No one can argue about his work rate, if anything, he could do with someone taking over more events.

Frank Smith, CEO of the company, has started to become the main man in lower key events such as NXTGEN cards and domestic bouts. He's a huge reason behind Matchroom's success and is Eddie's right-hand-man. Some see Smith being moulded into the next Hearn which is good news as he certainly has the charisma, energy, enthusiasm and business mind to potentially succeed in years to come but just not yet.
With Matchroom becoming bigger by the year in new countries, ultimately the more intense it becomes, the bigger the demand from fans. The brand will need more faces to ensure it delivers and there's one name who can speak just as good as Hearn and that's David Haye.

Haye can be the new face for Matchroom

Okay hear us out…
Yes, Haye did promise to end the Matchroom empire during the build-up of his bitter dust-up with Tony Bellew in 2017 but time is a healer, look at his partnership with Derek 'War' Chisora - who'd have thought them two would have a working relationship? If them two can forgive and forget then anyone can work together. Haye now works alongside Hearn to promote Chisora so they certainly have mutual respect despite previous history.

Love or loathe him, Haye has always been able to sell a fight. Alongside Hearn, he even managed to fight Audley Harrison on Sky Sports Box Office for f*******! Hearn knows the salesman like ability the Haymaker possesses like himself.
Once a promoter, always a promoter - that's the old saying, right?

Since hanging up the gloves for good, Haye made several additions to his Haymaker Promotions stable with 2016 Olympian Joe Joyce his biggest. These days though, as well as doing media duty, Haye manages and promotes Chisora and has now got him one or two fights away from challenging for world honors. Considering he was deemed washed up prior to the first fight with Dillian Whyte in 2016, it's quite staggering. When you reflect on the position Chisora is in, it's a perfect explanation as to why Haye could be a great addition to the Matchroom team.
