Canelo Alvarez v William Scull: Free boxing tips, expert predictions, undercard and where to watch

Super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez poses on the scale
Canelo Alvarez heads to Saudi Arabia for his first taste of Riyadh Season as he prepares to take on William Scull this Saturday night.
Boxing’s current promotional king Turki Alalshikh successfully used his bottomless pit of money to finally lure in Canelo.
The 34-year-old boxing superstar has been out of action for eight months but will be looking to impress his new backers.
Alvarez was busy in 2024 handing maiden defeats to Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga. He will now be looking to do the exact same to 23-0 William Scull.
The 32-year-old Cuban heads into this fight on the back of his IBF super-middleweight title win over Vladimir Shishkin.
Canelo will undoubtedly pose the biggest challenge of Scull’s professional career, which should make for a terrific main event this Saturday night.
Here, we take a closer look at everything you need to know ahead of this latest Riyadh Season event.
Roy Jones Jr (Multi-time world champion)
via Ring Champs podcast
“We don’t expect this guy to beat Canelo. [But] who were the only two people to give Canelo a really hard time – Floyd Mayweather [Jr] who was a supreme boxer and Erislandy Lara who is a Cuban extreme boxer.
"[Cubans] are mindful boxers, usually have very good feet and both caused Canelo the most problems in his career. If this guy has any boxing IQ and he has any kind of feet - this could be a rough night for Canelo, but if he doesn’t then Canelo should walk through him”

Oscar De La Hoya (Multi-time world champion)

“I seriously cannot say anything about it. I don’t know who Scull is, and I’m a boxing guy. I’m not just saying that because it’s Canelo and I don’t like Canelo. I’m saying this because I don’t know who Scull is. I’ve never seen him fight. All I know is that he is Cuban, and when I hear Cuban, you better be careful. Because he is going to have a lot of movement, a lot of footwork, and that gives Canelo trouble."
Teddy Atlas (Legendary trainer)
via The Fight with Teddy Atlas
“Unless Canelo is mentally off,” Atlas explained on his YouTube channel The Fight with Teddy Atlas. “I think this is the kind of night where he can write his own story and his own ending to the story. It’s up to Canelo completely. I see what can be a very handy, if not easy win for Canelo.”
Juan Manuel Marquez (Multi-time world champion)
via ES News
“William Scull is nobody," Marquez told ES NEWS. "He is nobody in the sport of boxing – He’s the IBF champion but do you know William Scull? I don’t know William Scull.”
George Groves (Former world champion)
via CasinoBeats
“You go against Canelo at your peril. Because he’s been so dominant at super middleweight over the years. I can’t see Crawford putting a dent in him. Obviously, he’s got to get past Scull first, but I don’t think he’ll struggle to win that fight. But at super middleweight, I haven’t seen anyone of late who I think is going to give him a run for his money.”

Canelo Alvarez v William Scull undercard
The biggest fight on the undercard promises to be the much-anticipated rematch between Jaime Munguia and Bruno Surace.
When the two men met last December, it was Surace who shocked the boxing world as he knocked out Munguia in six rounds.
The unbeaten Frenchman is now out to prove that the win was no fluke, while Munguia attempts to avenge his second career defeat.
Another tasty encounter comes in the cruiserweight division as Badou Jack battles Norair Mikaeljan.
Jack is the midst of a six-fight win run, picking up four stoppages along the way. His last success came against Ilunga Junior Makabu in Saudi Arabia, winning the fight with a 12th round TKO.
Trouble is, that last fight came all the way back in February 2023, meaning Jack has been out of action for 27 months.
His opponent also defeated Makabu in his last outing, thought that was back in November 2023.
There’s also tasty heavyweight action on the card, with Martin Bakole taking on Efe Ajagba.
Bakole is looking to shake off his second round TKO loss to Joseph Parker – a fight he took on very short notice.
Ajagba, meanwhile, has gone on a five-fight winning run following his unanimous decision defeat to Frank Sanchez back in late 2021.
