The PDC European Tour heads to the Netherlands this weekend as 48 players compete for the £30,000 prize in Rosmalen.

As the highest ranked Dutchman in the competition, Michael van Gerwen will be looking to delight the home crowd and secure his second tournament win on this season’s European Tour.

Van Gerwen won the German Darts Grand Prix in April but could not follow it up when he returned to European Tour action at the European Darts Grand Prix earlier this month.

Instead, it was two-time world champion Gary Anderson who powered to the final in Germany before thrashing Andrew Gilding 8-0 to win the title and the hefty cheque.

Majority of the big hitters were out in the early rounds during that event, including Luke Humphries, Van Gerwen, Rob Cross, Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price. In fact, they were all eliminated by the time the third round came into view.

Perhaps it is a coincidence but all those names we just mentioned all compete in the Premier League every Thursday night. Considering the short amount of time between events, the Premier League players will undoubtedly feel some kind of fatigue.

One man outside of the elite who is certainly worth keeping an eye on is Ross Smith. The 36-year-old reached the Austrian Darts Open final back in late April and also won the latest Players Championship event, averaging 104 in an 8-0 demolition of Brendan Dolan in the final.

Another man to watch is Martin Schindler. The Wall claimed two European Tour events last season and could match that with a win in Rosmalen.

Schindler won the Austrian Darts Open at the end of last month and also boasts a Players Championship event win on his record. Last year, the German reached the semi-final of the Dutch Darts Championship.

If you don’t fancy our underdogs and want to back one of the big hitters, Luke Humphries is your man.

While his recent Premier League results have been up and down, his averages have remained high. Back in Aberdeen, Cool Hand Luke was dumped out in the first round despite a 110 average against Luke Littler. Couple of weeks earlier he was eliminated by Gerwyn Price despite a 107 average.

With Humphries posting impressive recent numbers, he could cause some serious damage in the Netherlands as he targets his first European Tour title of the season.
