Wolverhampton best bet (2000): Rebecca West looking to justify market support

Our friends at Tipstrr have run their numbers over Saturday’s card, and have identified a surge of support for a young filly in the penultimate race of the evening meeting at Wolverhampton.

20:00 Wolverhampton: BetUk Home of the Acca-Fenwa - Div 1 (1 mile 4 furlongs)

With the strongly-fancied Tortured Soul expected to win with room to spare under all-weather specialist Rossa Ryan, better options might be found elsewhere, as the favourite’s short price has improved the each-way value of his nine rivals, especially with some bookies offering an extra place.

Indeed seven of the 10 starters are available at a double-digit price, and Alioski catches the eye under Billy Loughnane, it is the four-year-old Rebecca West who has created something of a stir in the Tipstrr camp.

This former John Gosden-trained filly was ultimately unable to hold her spot in that top stable, postmarking consistent 55's and staying on over seven to 10 furlongs on the Flat, before new trainer Alexandra Dunn decided to try her over obstacles and consequently a longer trip.

Suggested best bet: Rebecca West each-way in the 20:00 at Wolverhampton

Three modest runs over hurdles have brought a quick return to the Flat, where she was last seen at this same venue two weeks ago..

She made little impact in that outing, and maybe that was never the intention as she is quickly turned around for this longer 12-furlong handicap, with the extra distance perhaps seeking to exploit her recent experience in more strenuous hurdle races.

The application of first-time cheekpieces will be designed to help her get away a bit sharper than she did on that last visit, and her seemingly exploitable mark of 52 makes her appear to be a decent each-way play.
