Warwick horse racing tip (1500): Volcano primed to erupt again at preferred venue

There’s a host of decent stayers lining up to contest this highly-prized long-distance handicap, and Tipstrr pundit Richard Hutchinson has his eye on a horse that saves his best for the Warwick track.

15:00 Warwick: Wigley Group Classic Handicap Chase (3 miles 5 furlongs)

Most of this high-class 14-strong field arrive with some decent recent performances to be optimistic about, not least the warm favourite, Malina Girl, who won impressively at Cheltenham’s November meeting, and looked on course to replicate that when falling three out at the same venue a month ago.

The in-form Skelton yard have similar high hopes for Galia Des Liteaux, who won on this card last year and began this season with a promising win before coming second best to Pink Legend at Newbury last month.

Guetapan Collonges and Fontaine Collonges also have the credentials to be in the mix, but they should all be wary of some decent prospects lurking at the bottom end of the betting market, not least the bottom-weighted Volcano

The Sheila Lewis-trained 10-year-old has attracted plenty of support from Tipstrr’s each-way specialists, including Richard Hutchinson, whose Read Between The Lines service has provided the following analysis.

Volcano just loves it around Warwick with an amazing record of five wins from six starts at the track, including three over this distance. The one possible drawback was that his solitary defeat here came in this very race last year, when he came a nonetheless gallant 16-length fifth of 13 off a mark of 125 after starting 15 pounds out of the handicap.

Suggested bet: Volcano each-way in the 15:00 at Warwick

He went on to win at Warwick after that run off 115 and pitches up here off a still reasonable 120, giving him an effective 16-pound pull on the opposing Guetapan Collonges, who finished fourth in that race.

There is cause for us to expect an improved run from a year ago, because while Volcano has won on soft three times, he prefers better going than the bottomless ground he experienced last January.

All those things considered, Volcano’s double-digit price looks huge for his chances and he looks great value here under ben Jones for an each-way play, especially with five places widely available.
