Southwell best bet: Body Parts lined up for bold bid in wide-open contest

There’s some open-looking handicaps at Southwell’s Monday afternoon meeting, and this seven-furlong sprint has most of the ten starters fancying their chances of landing a blow.

With barely a couple of betting points covering the four early market leaders, the bookies clearly have no more idea than the rest of us as to where the winner might come from, although top-weight Khamsin appears to be gaining support as he drops to seven furlongs on a 10-pound lower mark than when he made his handicap debut over a mile here back in January.

Fellow market leaders Mayo County, Twenty Bob and Dingwall will all have their backers without seeming to offer much value in such a congested market, which opens the door for some more attractive each-way value elsewhere.

Gemma Tutty’s Body Parts had been shaping up nicely until taking something of a nosedive last time out four weeks ago, when she could only manage a seventh-placed finish over a mile at this venue.

Suggested best bet: Body Parts each-way in the 17:15 at Southwell

It’s worth noticing, however, that five of the six horses ahead of her that day were rated 65 or higher, well above the class of any of the rivals she faces in this 0-60 contest.

Prior to that outing, this three-year-old filly had enjoyed her maiden success over this distance in a 0-55 affair at Wolverhampton in February, before confirming that progress with a creditable third of 12 over a longer trip here a month later.

Tutty’s yard does not turn out a prolific amount of runners, but their three successes from the last 18 attempts over the last month have landed at 16/1, 10/1 and 17/2, so they are clearly capable of producing winners from well below the bookies’ radar.

Body Parts could well fit the same profile, and if able to put her most recent blip behind her, she might just come through to carry Joanna Mason into the frame here.
