Newcastle each-way tips: Latin Five and Sugar Hill Babe could surprise at tasty odds

Thursday’s racing action concludes with a competitive five-furlong sprint that should give those braving the weather something to talk about on their way home from Newcastle’s evening meeting.

19:35 Newcastle: Always Gamble responsibly With Bet UK Handicap (5 furlongs)

Any of the top three in the betting could emerge as the favourite, with last-time-out winners Water Of Leith and Crypto Quest currently split by Urban Dandy, but the value of all three looks dubious at around 3/1 and 7/2.

While they have the credentials to occupy the first three places at the line, there are plenty of potential threats from lower in the betting, and that might be where better value can be found, should any or all of the three principals falter.

Among Tipstrr’s each-way specialists there has been plenty of interest in Sugar Hill Babe, who was a winner at Bath just four outings ago, but looks a risky prospect after a four-month lay-off, although Alex Jary’s five-pound claim could help.

There has also been a smattering of support for Birkenhead, who was a course-distance winner a couple of years back, but was less impressive when last of eight over this same trip 12 days ago.

Arguably most eye-catching of all is Paul Midgley’s capable seven-year-old, Latin Five, whose consistency was rewarded with an overdue return to the winner’s enclosure at Ripon in August.

That success came in the midst of seven straight frame finishes which concluded with a close-up second over this course and distance in September, when she came within a neck of Phoenix Star, who has performed strongly since.

Five months away from the track should not be an issue, and it would be no surprise to see this gelding in the mix under the capable presence of David Nolan

Suggested best bet: Latin Five each-way in the 19:35 at Newcastle
