Leicester best bet: Love You Grandpa poised to hit ground running after summer break

A dozen fillies line up for this competitive-looking handicap, and Tipstrr racing expert Steve Jone has picked out a lightly-raced four-year-old as his best-bet Daily Bargain.

16:35 Leicester: British EBF Fillies’ Handicap (1 mile 2 furlongs)

Sir Michael Stoute has a massive 30% win rate (65% place rate) from his 60 runners at this track over the last five seasons and that strike rate increases to 50% when considering just his older runners.

Also, this trainer is an expert with older fillies and Love You Grandpa looks the one to be on in this handicap restricted to fillies and mares.

This four-year-old from Frankel is a very lightly-raced filly for her age after just four career runs, so she still retains plenty of scope for further progress.

She also goes very well fresh, so the fact that connections have rested her for three months following her seasonal debut is a plus.

That run followed an absence of 353 days and was over the longer 11.5-furlong trip on the sharp, right-handed track at Windsor, where she finished runner-up of six behind the race-fit 83-rated gelding The Whipmaster.

Now facing only her own sex, Love You Grandpa looks poised to strike as she drops back 1.5 furlongs on a more testing, uphill right-handed track.

Her seasonal debut run last year was at Salisbury, another uphill, right-handed track, where she finished 3rd/11 over 10f in a fillies’ novices’ stakes, missing second place by just a short head.

Richard Kingscote, who rode her at Windsor last time, is here to partner her again and this looks a very good choice of race for the filly.

Suggested bet: Love You Grandpa in the 16:35 at Leicester

Of the others, Thebeautifulgame might run a lot better than her big early prices might suggest after finishing a never-nearer third of 10 last time out in a 0-84 fillies’ handicap over the slightly shorter nine-furlong trip at Sandown, where she came from a long way back, so this extra furlong goes in her favour.

Next best bet: Thebeautifulgame in the 16:35 at Leicester

So too does the fact that this time last year she also finished third of eight in a higher-graded Class 3 fillies’ handicap over this distance at Newmarket, where the winner is now rated 96 and Thebeautifulgame missed second place by a nose, and is now four pounds lower.
