Hereford best bet: Untried Moroko can hit ground running for red-hot-yard

Hereford goes ahead
The final race of the Planet Sport Bet-sponsored meeting at Hereford has all the hallmarks of a three-horse race, with seven of the ten starters carrying unfancied double-digit odds.

Indeed, red-hot favourite Jacobin is expected to turn this two-mile bumper into a procession, and his runner-up spot on debut in heavy ground at Chepstow two months ago suggests that this five-year-old has a bright future in the capable hands of trainer Paul Nicholls and returning jockey Harry Cobden.

His main challengers are likely to be fellow market leaders, King Of Tara and Mokoro, both of whom come from equally impressive teams in the shape of the O’Neill stable and Skelton yard respectively.
King Of Tara finished close-up runner-up in two similar events at either side of a summer-lay-off, and was not fazed by the heavy going in the latter of those two outings at Chepstow three months ago.
However, it is the as-yet untried Mokoro who has received our final nod, and his position among the betting principals suggests that good things are expected from Dan Skelton’s charge here.
The Skeltons produced a first-time bumper winner at Doncaster just last week, and the yard is generally in red-hot form, saddling three winners in the last nine runners, including Jay Jay Reilly who landed the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday.
Although Mokoro is an unknown quantity, the yard has only sent three runners to Hereford, where they boast an impressive 27% win rate over the last five seasons, and that rate could well have climbed by the end of the afternoon.
Suggested best bet: Mokoro in the 16:10 at Hereford
