Goodwood Handicap each-way racing tip: Temporize shaping up for marathon trip

Day four at Glorious Goodwood kicks off with what appears to be one of the most open betting races, and it’s certainly been enough to create a major blip on the radar of Tipstrr’s each-way specialists

13:50 Coral Goodwood Handicap (2 miles 4.5 furlongs)

Topping the ratings, the weights and the betting, Calling The Wind won this in 2021, albeit off a much lower mark, and sits as an uncertain favourite in such a wide open market.

This Richard Hughes-trained seven-year-old is a dependable type who is clearly capable over this longer trip if he can replicate his 2021 success and his more recent form when landing the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle a month ago.

Queueing up behind him, Tronador is another last-time-out winner who should go well under in-form jockey Joe Fanning, while Robert Johnson also enters calculations after completing a three-timer at York three weeks ago and winning five of his last six.

Law Of The Sea should also be there or thereabouts if his Northumberland Plate effort can be written off in favour of his eye-catching fourth place in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting in June.

Of most interest within the Tipstrr camp, however, is Temporize, who recently switched from Charlie Johnston's yard to join Syd Hosie, and is looking to rejuvenate the promise he showed when winning both of his first two career outings this time last year.

He has yet to revisit the winner's enclosure in 13 subsequent attempts, but has shown increasing promise over longer recent trips, firstly finishing runner-up by a neck to Grand Providence at Doncaster a month ago.

He went even closer just last week, rallying late on to come within a head of the winner at Ascot, with the rest of the field strung out 12 and more lengths behind the two leaders.

Those strong finishes over a couple of miles suggest there is more in the tank to tackle this two-and-a-half-mile marathon, and with Luke Morris booked to take the reins, Temporize looks well worth an each-way punt with any of the bookmakers offering five or even six places.

Suggested bet: Temporise each-way in the 13:50 at Goodwood
