Ffos Las best bet (1615): Dundory primed to convert early promise into maiden hurdling success

There’s a decent National Hunt card to enjoy at Ffos Las on Monday, and they seem to have saved one of the best races until last, with plenty in with a shout of landing this two-mile handicap hurdle.

16:15 Ffos Las: DragonBet Backing Welsh Sport Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (2 miles)

Top weight Bullets Hill heads the market on the strength of his career-best six-and-a-half-length win at Exeter three days ago, and another bold bid can be expected if he can replicate that performance.

The quick turnaround could work against him, of course, as could the replacement of Charlie Deutsch with Harriet Tucker, although her allowance does at least negate the immediate seven-pound penalty.

If those factors put a question mark over the favourite’s short price, then Passing Kate heads the dangers after stringing together some impressive finishing numbers (123132) in her last six outingsn and her chances are enhanced by the booking of Sean Bowen, who is just eight wins behind PlanetSportBet ambassador Harry Cobden in the race for the Champion Jockey crown.

However, catching the eye of a clutch of Tipstrr pundits is the John O’Shea trained Dundory, who has been showing signs of progress since switching to hurdling last autumn.

Suggested best bet: Dundory each-way in the 16:15 at Ffos Las

A five-time winner in a useful Flat career, this eight-year-old gelding took a few outings to transition to going over obstacles, but after a couple of modest novice outings he has looked much more competitive since being tried in handicaps.

Third of 11 at Wincanton in March, he was last seen giving another good account to finish fourth at Ludlow three weeks ago, with those outings on heavy and soft going respectively.

His best form on the Flat was on decent ground, so he should relish the improving conditions at Ffos Las, and he could well be ready to convert his early promise in this sphere.
