PIERRE LE QUILL (4) was allowed to drift back from an outside draw last time but found the line strongly to finish fifth, beaten 6 lengths, over 6¾f at Donald. Outsprinted in the run home but kept coming and the extra ground looks a big plus. Well placed and hard to hold off. STOLE HIM (5) is an Alpine Eagle gelding who cost AUD $ 18,000 (Magic Millions 2024 Tasmanian Yearling Sale) as a yearling and makes debut. Fitter for a recent trial. Looks set to run well. FIORENTE RULES (6) ran a fair race on debut last time out, beaten 4. 5 lengths into seventh over 7½f at Mornington on November 27. Fitter and is among the chances. WEST FORTY SEVENTH (3) finished out of the money on debut two starts back then was beaten 3. 5 lengths when ninth over 7f at Ballarat three-and-a-half weeks ago. This is a nice drop in grade so he is likely to play a big role.
