MAUI (1) showed good early speed then led into the straight when fresh from a lay-off last start before fighting on to finish third, beaten a head, over 1m at Ballina. Will go forward again and looks tough to beat. SOOZIE MAREE (17) did little and finished 10 lengths from the winner in 11th over 7f at Gatton last start after being prominent at the corner, a less impressive effort than her sixth at Ipswich the run before. Has the ability to take care of this field. TYPHOON TIP (9) comes here off a last-start fourth, beaten 6 lengths, over 1m at Gatton. One of the leading contenders. SPILLS (5) missed the placings two runs back then didn't do any better last start when 5 lengths away in ninth over 1m at Coffs Harbour. Nicely placed to find some form.
