SURFY PETE (1) is returning from a lay-off of 11 weeks. Finished tenth at Casterton over 6f at the first run last prep. Now with a new trainer Paul Preusker. Ran fourth in a trial at Horsham over 4f recently. Nicely placed and expected to go well. POETIC WHISPER (4) has a moderate winning strike-rate but impressed when returning from a break last time at Hamilton, finishing second and only 1. 5 lengths from the winner at the end of 7f after being prominent at the bend. Best figures measure up. Sure to run well. HAATHER (2) hasn't raced since finishing seventh at Donald over 6¾f seven weeks ago. Kept ticking over with a placing in a recent trial at Colac. Rates highly and is one of the leading contenders. DEEP CORE (8) knuckled down strongly to get within a neck of the winner in second last start over 6f at Avoca. Should be winding up late again.
