Group 1 winner GEAR UP (4) was unwanted in betting last time but scored by a nose over 1m2f in the LR Mornington Cup Prelude at Caulfield. Winning rider Jamie Mott stays aboard. Should be hard to stop. South Australian Derby winner DUNKEL (3) had been in top form landing two consecutive wins but last start missed the frame when sixth over 1m4 1/2f in the LR Pakenham Cup. Should be hard to stop. Group 3 placegetter MANKAYAN (7) delivered a nice performance last start when second over 1m2f in the LR Mornington Cup Prelude at Caulfield after he was up on the pace all the way. Won at his only start at this longer journey. Expected to run well. MOSTLY CLOUDY (11) turned in an eye-catching run over 1m2f at Wangaratta when resuming last time, ridden back before coming home with a powerful run to finish second. Will find this much tougher but is ready for the challenge.
