THE DEFENDER (2) is a four-start maiden who resumed from a lay-off last start and was beaten 1.4 lengths when fourth over 5f at Werribee. Improvement to come and this is his chance to break through. THE STREAKER (6) hit the frame two starts ago at Mornington but ran below par last time when 11th and beaten 10 lengths over 5½f at Murray Bridge. Finds the right race this time and can turn things around. QUEEN CAVES (9) missed the placings when resuming two runs back then didn't feature last start when 10 lengths away in fifth over 5f at Moonee Valley after being prominent at the corner. Finds an easier assignment and can take this out. KATHY'S ROSE (11) has put together back-to-back placings, the latest when a nose away in second over 5f at Hanging Rock. Suitably placed so anticipating another big run.
