Planet Sport offers tips and suggested bets ahead of the Wimbledon men's singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on Sunday 14 July.

Taking away how folks might feel about one player of the other, the Wimbledon men's singles final is all set to be a cracking contest.

If the rematch between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic is anything at all like the match they contested last season, fans will come away happy with what they have witnessed.

Alcaraz is one of the few players in the game right now that can match Djokovic for sheer determination and that is before we even factor in his skills and talents.

Naturally, it is always tough to compare a player to someone like Djokovic with an all-time great career, especially someone who is still so new and fresh in the sport.

Djokovic leads the head-to-head between the two men 3-2 although the Wimbledon triumph for Alcaraz last term has so far been their only clash on grass.

The walkover that gave Djokovic passage through the quarter-finals has also meant that he has endured a considerably lighter workload through the fortnight.

Alcaraz has spent four hours and 13 minutes more time on court over the two weeks at Wimbledon, playing 23 sets of tennis against the 17 that Djokovic has navigated. The Spaniard has played 231 games to reach the final while the world No 2 has played just 168.

Both players came through fairly straightforward semi-final wins and there is no doubt that Acaraz and Djokovic will be equally convinced that they will be the one to lift the trophy on Sunday.

Djokovic is yet to win a title in 2024 with his campaign hampered by a string of injuries. Alcaraz has also been hit by fitness concerns at times but he won at Indian Wells in March and last month claimed his third Grand Slam at Roland Garros.

Wimbledon men's singles final: Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic suggested bets

In four of their five clashes, Djokovic has won the opening set of the match; the Serbian has also won the opening set in all but one of his matches at Wimbledon so far meanwhile Alcaraz has given up the opening frame in three of the last four of his outings. That suggests that Djokovic looks good to take the opening set of the encounter.

Djokovic has twice won the opening set against Alcaraz by the scoreline of 6-3 and if lightning strikes a third time the opening set score bet could sweeten up an acca.

Alcaraz has been able to fight from behind in matches so far in his Wimbledon run and hasn't looked close to running out of steam. It would be no great surprise if the Spaniard claimed the Wimbledon final by three sets to two.

If the Spaniard can find a way to dominate Djokovic more wholly he could overcome a -1.5 set handicap if you're setting up your slip with total faith in the world No 3's all-action style.
