Tennis acca tips: Andorra and Argentina Open tips

Heather Watson
Planet Sport presents picks for selected matches from the twin WTA 125 events in Andorra and Argentina.
The WTA 125 events in Andorra and Buenos Aires have hit the last 16 stage.
British journeywoman Heather Watson is out to kick-start her 2024 season with a Catalan jaunt while the South American summer clay swing continues in Buenos Aires.
Here, we make our picks for selected matches from the twin events.
WTA Andorra: Alina Charaeva vs Heather Watson | Pick: Watson
WTA Andorra: Sarah Iliev vs Katarzyna Kawa | Pick: Kawa
WTA Andorra: Marina Bassols Ribera vs Ekaterina Reyngold | Pick: Ribera
WTA Buenos Aires: Diane Parry vs Julieta Lara Estable | Pick: Parry
WTA Buenos Aires: Polona Hercog vs Valeriya Strakhova | Pick: Hercog
WTA Buenos Aires: Jamie Loeb vs Elizabeth Mandlik | Pick: Mandlik
WTA Buenos Aires: Laura Pigossi vs Conny Perrin | Pick: Perrin
WTA Andorra: Alina Charaeva vs Heather Watson
Alina Charaeva meets Heather Watson for the first time in her career, looking to cause another upset after her battling win over Oceane Dodin in the previous round.
Watson blew past Timea Babos in the first round and will be eyeing a quarter-final appearance.
Facing a third successive first-round exit, Watson pulled out a clinical performance that suggests she is close to her best game.
Watson should have the quality and experience to see off the 21-year-old in straight sets.
WTA Andorra: Sarah Iliev vs Katarzyna Kawa
Katarzyna Kawa faces an opponent who she will not have been able to get much of a look at before in 17-year-old Sarah Iliev.
This first-round match has been bumped all the way to Wednesday, but that delay might benefit Kawa.
Iliev has had a lot of time to contemplate this match and what it would mean to win.
Kawa's experience should be decisive, though, and her level of play has been clearly higher.
WTA Andorra: Marina Bassols Ribera vs Ekaterina Reyngold
Marina Bassols Ribera faces off with Ekaterina Reyngold for the first time in singles competition as the favourite.
Just one year in age seperates these players but Ribera is over 300 rankings places higher up the ladder.
Reyngold has already beaten one top 200 players this week, though, and could fancy another upset.
Ribera beat highly-rated German prospect Noma Akugue Noha first up in a statement win, though, and should back that performance up and clinch a last-eight place.
WTA Buenos Aires: Diane Parry vs Julieta Lara Estable
Top seed Diane Parry seems to have bounced back well from an early loss in Florianopolis last week.
Home hope Julieta Lara Estable will be up against it to get through in this contest.
Parry should have her beaten in almost every area of play and is no stranger to clay.
Parry has fallen down the French singles pecking order and should be eager to push back up the rankings with another win.
WTA Buenos Aires: Polona Hercog vs Valeriya Strakhova
Polona Hercog and Valeriya Strakhova also clash for the first time with a place in the Argentina Open quarter-finals on the line.
Both players saw their first-round opponents retire before the completion of the matches; however, Hercog played for just 70 minutes while Strakhova spent over two hours in the Buenos Aires sun.
Hercog appears to be in better all-around form and should have this contest covered from all angles.
Strakhova has a slender rankings advantage, but that will count for little in their first clash.
WTA Buenos Aires: Jamie Loeb vs Elizabeth Mandlik
Elizabeth Mandlik put right a recent loss to Martina Capurro Taborda and sent the home player packing from the Argentina Open and is a strong semi-final contender.
American Jamie Loeb saw off Greece's Despina Papamichail in straight sets, but Mandlik might just prove too strong.
Mandlik lost at this stage last week after being seemingly well-placed for a deep run and will want to put that right.
Loeb's lack of high-level play this season is likely to count against her in this encounter.
WTA Buenos Aires: Laura Pigossi vs Conny Perrin
While Laura Pigossi holds a big rankings advantage over Conny Perrin, it is the latter who leads their head-to-head series.
Perrin has beaten Pigossi three times in three attempts and will be out to make it four in a row.
They last met in 2019 but Perrin is likely to still have a good idea of how to unpick the game of Pigossi.
Perrin has the better record on clay this season and should be able to get another big win over Pigossi.
