The third round of the Australian Open is nearly in the book for another year and Planet Sport has some red-hot picks for the action on Saturday at Melbourne Park.

Daniil Medvedev faces a big test of his title credentials just over a day after an epic five-setter that concluded in the early hours of the morning.

Players will be desperate to get into the second week of action when the Australian Open continues with third-round action on Saturday.

Here we make our picks for the action on Saturday at Melbourne Park.

Australian Open Men's Singles: Cameron Norrie vs Casper Ruud

Former top ten stars face off when Cameron Norrie and Casper Ruud battle for a place in the last 16.

Ruud and Norrie will face off for the fourth time, with Ruud leading 3-0 and 2-0 on hard courts.

Norrie and Ruud had to grind to make it through the second round securing five-set wins against Giulio Zeppieri and Max Purcell respectively.

Ruud is still unbeaten this year having won all his singles matches at the United Cup.

Australian Open Men's Singles: Grigor Dimitrov vs Nuno Borges

There is no head-to-head record between Grigor Dimitrov and Nuno Borges as this will be the first time that they will square off on the main circuit.

Dimitrov is already a titlist this term winning the crown in Brisbane where he defeated Holger Rune in the final.

Borges had a good straight-sets win against Davidovich Fokina in the last round but has already lost twice this season.

Dimitrov has a big edge in Grand Slam experience and is as fit as ever.

Australian Open Men's Singles: Felix Auger Aliassime vs Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev and Felix Auger-Aliassime will face off in the third round of the Australian Open for the seventh time in their careers.

Medvedev leads the head-to-head 6-0, with a 5-0 advantage on hard.

They split a five-set epic when they met in Melbourne in 2022 but Medvedev remains dominant in the rivalry.

Medvedev should have the quality to come through but this is a tough match for him at this stage of the tournament.

Australian Open Men's Singles: Alexander Zverev vs Alex Michelsen

Alexander Zverev and Alex Michelsen will face off in the third round of the Australian Open for the first time in their careers.

The German ranked sixth on the ATP Tour, advanced to the third round by overcoming Dominik Koepfer and Lukas Klein.

Zverev has a 6-1 win-loss record in 2024 and appears to be in good condition.

In the second round against Lehecka, Michelsen came from a one-set down and won in four.

Australian Open Women's Singles: Oceane Dodin vs Clara Burel

For the first time in their careers, French players Oceane Dodin and Clara Burel will square off in the Australian Open's third round.

Burel scored a massive win in the previous round as she bested Jessica Pegula to eliminate the third seed.

Burel has won 58% of the points she has played in this tournament without dropping a set.

Dodin, ranked 95th, defeated Lin Zhu and Martina Trevisan to advance to the third round but could come unstuck against her in-form compatriot.

Australian Open Women's Singles: Jelena Ostapenko vs Victoria Azarenka

This will be the fourth meeting between Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Ostapenko; Azarenka leads the head-to-head match 3-0.

Ostapenko has been her mercurial self throughout her run in Melbourne but might be playing at a level above the former No 1.

Still, the Latvian won't want to take the Belarusian lightly considering her record in Australia.

Ostapenko should win this one but it might be a tight affair.

Australian Open Women's Singles: Iga Swiatek vs Linda Noskova

Linda Noskova would do well not to take home one of the Iga Swiatek bakery's infamous Bagels.

When they faced one other previously, in 2023, Swiatek prevailed 6-1 6-4 in the Warsaw quarterfinal.

After defeating Danielle Rose Collins and Sofia Kenin, Swiatek advanced to the third round for the fifth time at the Australian Open.

Noskova struggled with accuracy on her serve last time out and will be made to pay if she has the same kind of showing.

Australian Open Women's Singles: Elina Svitolina vs Viktorija Golubic

For the second time in their careers, Elina Svitolina and Viktorija Golubic will square off in the Australian Open's third round.

In their most recent match, which took place in Melbourne in the first round of 2019, Svitolina prevailed 6-1 6-2.

The Ukrainian defeated Viktoriya Tomova in straight sets in the second round to reach the round of 32.

The Swiss, ranked 85th, defeated Katerina Siniakova and Veronika Kudermetova to reach this stage.
