French Open acca tips: Iga Swiatek to open the bakery for business

The French Open continues at Roland Garros on Wednesday with Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner amongst those in action and Planet Sport has the selections you need for your Tennis acca.

For all the improvements she has made on clay, Naomi Osaka was handed a cruel draw in the form of world No 1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek.

There is a good chance that the Iga Swiatek bakery will be open in a second-round mismatch between the top seed and a wildcard as Osaka would do well to avoid a bagel.

On Wednesday evening Jannik Sinner faces home hope Richard Gasquet in a tricky test.

Here we make our picks for selected matches on Wednesday 29 May.

French Open 2024 Men's Singles: Andrey Rublev vs Pedro Martinez Portero

World number six Andrey Rublev will be out to avoid a potential banana skin and notch a second head-to-head win over Pedro Portero in as many meetings.

Their last meeting was also at a Grand Slam with Portero taking a set off the Russian at the 2021 US Open before bowing out.

Rublev might need to weather some aggressive tennis from Portero and not fall into the trap of trying to force winners.

He has found the winning formula on clay this season and Rublev is one to watch at Roland Garros.

French Open 2024 Men's Singles: Corentin Moutet vs Alexander Shevchenko

Corentin Moutet and Alexander Shevchenko are also set for a second career meeting when the French Open second round continues on Wednesday afternoon.

Moutet came out on top the last time these players met albeit that clash was at Challenger level.

The Frenchman gives up 20 places on the ATP Rankings to Shevchenko.

However, Moutet holds a much better record in matches on clay this season with Shevchenko losing eight of his 13 matches on the surface.

French Open 2024 Men's Singles: Pavel Kotov vs Stanislas Wawrinka

Pavel Kotov has shown a willingness to grind out a match while Stan Wawrinka fired up to quickly put Andy Murray away to reach the second round.

This will be the first-ever clash between these players and the rankings difference might count for little.

Kotov will aim to test the fitness of Wawrinka but that might come at a cost.

The Russian could find himself well beaten if he cannot get a foothold in the game early on.

French Open 2024 Men's Singles: Richard Gasquet vs Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner's fitness has been in question and his absence from Rome left many wondering what sort of shape he would be in.

Sinner stormed through the opening round and looked close to his best in a warning shot to the rest of the field.

He would usually enjoy good crowd support but Gasquet will have the home crowd right behind him.

Sinner should be able to neutralise the crowd factor and beat Gasquet in straight sets.

French Open 2024 Women's Singles: Iga Swiatek vs Naomi Osaka

Iga Swiatek vs Naomi Osaka is a match that looks enticing on paper but could end up being terribly one-sided on clay.

Swiatek came through the opening round with ease while Osaka did well to best Lucia Bronzetti in a tough first-round match.

It doesn't get any easier for Osaka as she faces the reigning queen of clay.

Swiatek could steamroll right over Osaka in fairly quick time.

French Open 2024 Women's Singles: Coco Gauff vs Tamara Zidansek

Coco Gauff will need to be at her best to see off seasoned clay courter Tamara Zidansek.

Zidansek has played three consecutive three-setters, having battled through qualifying and the first round.

Gauff took less than an hour to reach this stage of the competition after she bested Julia Avdeeva in just 51 minutes.

Zidansek's seven hours of tennis at Roland Garros might catch up with her in this match where she cannot afford to be leggy at all.

French Open 2024 Women's Singles: Cristina Bucsa vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Unseeded players Cristina Bucsa and Elisabetta Cocciaretta will meet in the second round of the 2024 French Open.

The second meeting between these two comes six years after the first with the winner to go on to play either Liudmila Samsonova or Amanda Anisimova next.

Cocciaretto stunned Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia in the previous round, while Bucsa came through a match she would have been expected to win.

Cocciaretto leads the head-to-head between the players but as we mentioned before that clash came six years ago.

French Open 2024 Women's Singles: Liudmilla Samsonova vs Amanda Anisimova

Amanda Anisimova has had her countrywoman's number in their head-to-head matches.

Anisimova beat seeded Liudmilla Samsonova at the Australian Open earlier this season.

Samsonova and Anisimova have met twice but this will be the first time they clash on clay.

Samsonova will be out for some revenge and has been playing better tennis than her rival.
