Iryna Shymanovich vs Aryna Sabalenka (2)

Wednesday, 31 May, Time: 13:15

World number two Sabalenka is one of the few genuine challengers to Iga Swiatek for the title, and should prove far too strong for her Belarusian counterpart.
Whilst the red clay is probably Sabalenka's worst surface, as shown by her defeat to Sofia Kenin in Italy earlier this month, she also recently won the Madrid Masters, so is no slouch.
Shymanovich is likely to move into the top 150 and is an improving player, although her 24-11 2023 record is not nearly as impressive as her compatriot's 30-5 - further evidence suggesting Sabalenka will have no problem advancing to the third round.

Suggested bets

Sabalenka to win first set 6-4
Shymanovich to get bagled first up
Sabalenka to start slowly

Set score prediction: Sabalenka to win in straight sets

Marketa Vondrousova vs Daria Kasatkina (9)

Wednesday 31 May, Time: 12:00

A semi-finalist last year, world number nine Kasatkina could have her work cut out for her against a player ranked 51 places below her.
Vondrousova is 6-2 on clay this and had little trouble in getting past Alycia Parks in the first round on Monday. The world number 60 will also take heart from the fact Kasatkina is 8-4 on clay this year and without a win on the surface.
They have met once before, when Kasatkina won in three sets in the second round of the US Open, although that match was in 2015 and both players have matured significantly since then.

Suggested bets

Vondrousova to win first set
Kasatkina to win opener
Kasatkina to win tie-break in first set

Set score prediction: Kasatkina to win in three sets

Sara Errani vs Irina Camelia Begu (27)

Wednesday 31 May, Time: 14:20

Possibly the most exciting match of the round betweem two veterans of the women's game.

Errani reached the final at Roland Garros so the former world number five is no stranger to the big stage, although that was in 2013.
Begu, meanwhile, reached the Round of 16 twice, although the most recent was last year, and at 32 years of age is far closer to her prime.
The 36-year-old Errani leads the head-to-head record 3-2, but they are 2-2 on clay and Begu did win the most recent meeting - in Bucharest last year. Errani last won in Guadalajara, back in 2019.

Currently ranked 73 and with a seasson record of 11-6 on clay, Errani remains a formidable opponent, but will she have enough in the tank against a the 27th seed?

Suggested bets

Errani to win first set
Begu needing tie-break to win opener
Errani to win first set 7-5

Set score prediction: Begu to win in three sets
