Petra Kvitova enters Wimbledon as Eastbourne champion following victory over Jelena Ostapenko

On this occasion, the 32-year-old was ruthless as she controlled the one-sided encounter from the outset and romped to a 6-3 6-2 win in 77 minutes.

Eighth seed Ostapenko had not dropped a single set on her way to the final, but struggled to contain Kvitova's powerful serve and booming forehand.

What's more, a string of self-inflicted errors contributed to Ostapenko's eventual defeat.

Speaking on court following her win, Kvitova said: "I had already experienced losing in a final (in 2011), so I guess I am lucky.

"Playing on the grass is very special for me, especially when you step onto a beautiful court such as here.

"It's really nice to play in front of the people again; in Corona it was a really tough time, it's such a better feeling."

Kvitova not only picked up her 29th career singles title but will also take a lot of confidence heading into her first-round Wimbledon clash against Italian Jasmine Paolini.

Statistically speaking, Kvitova's Eastbourne triumph doesn't do her grand slam chances any good, considering the last player to follow up her win at Devonshire Park with a victory at the All England Club was Jana Novotna back in 1998.

Asked about her compatriot, who died at the age of 49 in 2017, Kvitova said: "It's always nice to think about Jana, of course.

"She had so many great matches, not only here but in Wimbledon as well.

"I'm glad that we are able to play such a great event as here. It's the best preparation for Wimbledon."

Kvitova did go on to win the 2011 Wimbledon crown after losing a final at Eastbourne that same year. The Czech player also won the 2014 edition of the grand slam.
