Katie Boulter through to second round of Upper Austria Open after beating Jasmine Paolini

Katie Boulter pulled off an upset against sixth seed Jasmine Paolini, beating her in straight sets to move into the second round of the Upper Austria Open.

The British number one defeated Paolini 6-2 6-2 in an hour and 16 minutes and will now play Russia's world number 42 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the last 16.

Boulter broke the Italian world number 24 twice in the opening set and then held for a 5-1 lead before serving out to take it in 31 minutes.

Paolini lost her serve in the opening game of the second set and, after being broken again in the fifth game, failed to convert three break points of her own against Boulter's serve to trail 5-1.

Boulter, who lost to China's beaten Australian Open finalist Zheng Qinwen in the second round in Melbourne earlier this month, confidently served out for love in the final game, sealing victory on her first match point.

Earlier on Monday, British number two Jodie Burrage qualified for the main draw in Linz, fighting back from a set down to beat Germany's Anna-Lena Friedsam 5-7 6-3 6-2.
