Hubert Hurkacz satisfied with Shanghai Masters semi-final qualification

Polish star Hubert Hurkacz says he is 'satisfied' with his performance after qualifying for his sixth career ATP Masters 1000 semi-final at the Shanghai Masters.

The 26-year-old defeated surprise package Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, 24, in an entertaining 4-6 6-1 6-3 comeback victory following a sloppy first-set display by the Pole.

"I am very satisfied with my performance," said Hurkacz after the match.

"I put a lot of effort into getting to this tournament well and I managed to move forward. Today was a really tough challenge, very complicated, but I overcame it."

The 16th seed commended the 91st-ranked Hungarian for his display in the tournament and his competitiveness during their quarter-final clash.

"He came with some really great shots, and I just needed to stay positive and keep committing to the gameplan," said Hurkacz.

"To be aggressive, because if I dropped anything short he was just taking advantage of it and coming with some really incredible shots. I knew I had to stay on point today."

Hurkacz will now face world number 26 Sebastian Korda in the next round of the Shanghai Masters in what will be his 15th career tour semi-final, hoping to secure his second career title.

Now I look forward to face the semi-finals," added the former Miami Open winner.

"In the past but usually I always do quite well in these types of events.

"In this tournament, all the best played and there was great competition, so I am satisfied and happy to have made it this far."

Hurkacz also commented on his next opponent Korda, 23, who defeated fellow American Ben Shelton, 21, to set up a semi-final clash at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena.

"Both Korda and Shelton are new to the tour and we are talking about really strong tennis players, I would say fantastic. They are very good at serving and difficult to deal with."

The semi-final clash is set for Saturday, with the time yet to be confirmed.
