French Open 2023 tips: Men's singles day 10 guide and suggested bets

The business end of the tournament is upon us and we preview two potentially mouthwatering clashes - Novak Djokovic vs Karen Kachanov and Carlos Alcaraz vs Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 2023 French Open men's singles main draw continues on Tuesday with play taking place on the show courts at the Stade Roland Garros.

The two-time winner's ascent in performance during the second week of Grand Slam tournaments was on full display once again as he triumphed over Juan Pablo Varillas in the Round of 16.

The Serbian's 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory showcased his dominance, losing the fewest number of games in the tournament. He significantly improved his serving, facing only three breakpoints compared to the 10 he lost in his previous three matches combined.

With his 17th quarter-final appearance at the French Open, Djokovic surpassed Rafael Nadal's record, and despite the French Open not being his preferred Slam, he has converted 11 out of 16 previous quarter-finals into semi-finals. However, his most recent quarter-final match in the French Open ended in defeat to Nadal last year.

This year marks the first time since 2018 that Djokovic has entered the French Open without a clay title, and that year, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Marco Cecchinato, ranked 72nd at the time.

Khachanov, meanwhile, demonstrated his prowess in Grand Slam tournaments, overcoming Lorenzo Sonego to Reach the Round of 16.

Khachanov has achieved the feat of reaching at least one quarter-final in all four Slams and excelled in recent US Open and Australian Open semi-finals.

Despite Khachanov's commendable Slam performances, he has struggled against top-10 players, holding a 1-13 record in such match-ups throughout his career.

However, he ended a 23-match losing streak against top-10 opponents by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Miami Masters this year.

Carlos Alcaraz (1) vs Stefanos Tsitsipas (5) Tuesday 6 June, Time: 19:15

Alcaraz is set to face a familiar adversary in Tsitsipas in the evening match on Philippe-Chatrier.

Despite being just 19 years old, Alcaraz has never lost to Tsitsipas in their four previous encounters. One of their meetings took place earlier this year in the Barcelona Open final, where Alcaraz emerged victorious in straight sets.
Alcaraz remains on course for his first French Open title as he secured a spot in the quarters with a convincing victory over Lorenzo Musetti. The Spanish top seed showcased his dominance, defeating the 17th-seeded Italian 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and eight minutes.

Alcaraz's powerful game was on full display as he unleashed 42 winners and won 77 per cent of his first-serve points. His exceptional return game proved to be the difference, winning 52 per cent of his receiving points and converting seven of his 14 break-point opportunities.

Tsitsipas, meanwhile, earned his place in the last eight with a commanding 7-5, 6-3, 6-0 win over Sebastian Ofner. The Greek player showcased his prowess, particularly in his return game, winning 46 per cent of his receiving points and converting six of his 11 break-point chances.

The world number five also displayed a strong net game, winning 16 of his 22 net points against Ofner.

As Tsitsipas looks to pull off a major upset against Alcaraz, he will need to continue his excellent return play and capitalise on his chances - and his proficiency at the net could prove to be a valuable asset in their upcoming clash.
