British number 10 Fran Jones pulls off big surprise in French Open qualifying

Fran Jones sends a player ranked 152 places above her - Coco Vandeweghe - crashing out of the French Open.

Fran Jones produced an outstanding performance at Roland Garros to reach the second round of French Open qualifying.
The British number 10 from Bradford knocked out American Coco Vandeweghe - a player ranked 152 places above her - 6-3 6-3.
It continued 22-year-old Jones' impressive return to form following an injury-plagued 2022.
Vandeweghe reached the Australian and US Open semi-finals in 2017, but Jones dominated a match that lasted an hour and 11 minutes.
Jones, who was born with only seven toes, and three fingers and a thumb on each hand due to a rare genetic condition called Ectrodactyly Ectodermal Dysplasia, will play Switzerland's Ylena In-Albon in the second qualifying round.
Elsewhere, British men's number seven Ryan Peniston won his first match at Roland Garros.
Peniston had been on a miserable run, losing his last eight matches, so a 6-4 6-2 victory over Turkey's Altug Celikbilek was much needed.
It was a different story, though, for Sonay Kartal, who looked to be on her way to an impressive victory against 19th seed Viktoria Hruncakova when she led 6-2 5-1.
But Kartal, looking for her first grand-slam victory, could not make it across the line and lost six games in a row before eventually falling to a 2-6 7-5 6-4 defeat.
