Manchester United’s last hope of winning a trophy comes in the FA Cup and they will be looking to take a step closer to Wembley this Wednesday night against Nottingham Forest (1945 GMT).

A failure in Europe, an early exit in the Carabao Cup, an average Premier League campaign – this has not been a season to remember for the Red Devils.

Despite all the disappointment, there is still hope for Erik ten Hag and his men.

Winning the FA Cup and forcing themselves into the top four would undoubtedly mark a successful end to a challenging campaign. Problem is, both the FA Cup and the top four are still a long way away.

The road to Wembley continues this Wednesday for Man United with a trip to the City Ground in the fifth round.

Ten Hag’s men enter this fixture on the back of a frustrating weekend defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford.

The result ended the team’s five-match winning run across all competitions and a seven-match unbeaten run.

Forest, on the other hand, are coming to terms with the fact that their new manager bounce is officially over.

Nuno Santo won three and lost one of his first five matches in charge. Since then, Forest have won just two of their last eight.

For Nottingham, survival in the Premier League trumps any cup run – especially with the club just four points above the drop.

Manchester United, on the other hand, need to keep an eye on both competitions if they are to have any sort of success come May.

Considering the Red Devils need to win this one, we’re backing them to edge into the next round with a narrow win. United to win by a single goal margin is the way to go.

    Team news

Nottingham Forest will be without Ola Aina, Willy Boly, Ibrahim Sangare, Nuno Tavares and Chris Wood.

Man United, meanwhile, are missing Rasmus Hojlund, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Casemiro remains a doubt.
