Chesterfield survived a scare in their play-off semi-final victory over Bromley, falling behind in the eighth minute of first-half stoppage time to a Jack Marriott goal. Before that, kick-off had been delayed and the game paused for a medical emergency.
Chesterfield found their rhythm in the second half and drew level before a Deji Elerewe red card handed the Spireites an advantage. They took the lead four minutes later, but the 10 men of the Ravens levelled in the 90th minute.
Chesterfield made the extra man count in extra time. Liam Mandeville put them ahead in the 102nd minute and the hosts were able to hold on.
Notts County had a similar route to the final, trailing 2-0 at home to Boreham Wood. A second-half comeback was capped by Aden Baldwin's second goal in the 97th minute of the game.
Extra time was cagey, but the visitors did fashion several chances of note. County squandered opportunities too but were left frustrated until Jodi Jones struck in the 120th minute to send them to Wembley.
When the sides met in the regular season, County had to come from two goals down at Meadow Lane to claim a point. On their travels, County were never truly in control until Jeff King saw red in the second half. The visitors won 2-1.
Six of the last seven National League play-off finals featured three or more goals, although one of those did need extra time. Neither side will fancy another 120 minutes and if the semi-finals are anything to go by, goals won't be in short supply.
Both teams have scored in four of Notts County's last five. Those five matches have totalled 22 goals. Chesterfield's last five games have also featured 22 goals and with all the attacking talent on show, goals seem likely.
Football isn't known for being fair, but it would feel like justice if Notts County were to be the second team promoted to League Two. Even though it may take extra time, we'll back the Magpies to win promotion. We're also going to recommend a bet on over 3.5 goals.
