Coppa Italia team news
Samir Handanovic is set to start in goal for Inter Milan ahead of Andre Onana. A thigh injury to Henrikh Mkhitaryan means that Marcelo Brozovic will start in midfield alongside Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu. These are likely to be the only changes to the side that saw off AC Milan last week.
Several key players were rested for Fiorentina in Sunday's draw with Torino, so Sofyan Amrabat, captain Cristiano Biraghi and top scorer Arthur Cabral will all return. Giacomo Bonaventura returns from a ban.
Verdict
It’s safe to say that Inter Milan have become cup specialists under Simone Inzaghi.
The former Lazio boss has won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana twice with the Rome club and he also guided Inter to those same trophies at the San Siro.
Inter are chasing an unlikely cup treble. The holders of the Coppa Italia have already won the Supercoppa and have earned themselves a shot at Man City in the Champions League final.
But they face a hungry Fiorentina team looking to end a 22-year trophy drought with a double success.
The Viola are in the Europa Conference League final with West Ham in Prague on June 7, but before that they are dreaming of glory in Rome.
Coach Vincenzo Italiano has yet to commit his future to the Florence club. A number of Italian clubs are checking on the availability of the 45-year-old, who is focused on two cup finals.
“We work with passion and love, but need to combine it all with results. These tournaments conclude in Rome and Prague, I hope to continue celebrating, then we’ll see what happens,” said Italiano.
The Viola are the 14/5 outsiders to beat an Inter side that swept rivals Milan aside 3-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Fiorentina have flattered to deceive in Serie A this season, producing sporadic glimpses of quality, including a 1-0 win at Inter in April and a win by the same score over AC Milan. However, their mid-table finish tells you all about their consistency.
They have saved their best work for cup competitions and they were impressive in disposing of Basel in the Europa League semi-finals.
They drew with Torino at the weekend after changing the majority of their line-up and have lost just twice to Monza and Napoli in domestic competition since February.
Arthur Cabral is their main attacking threat. The Brazilian scored in the Coppa Italia semi-final win over Cremonese and netted against Inter in the 4-3 defeat earlier this season.
If Inter can keep a lid on Cabral then they should go and retain the trophy. However, they have had some dismal domestic defeats this season.
There was no shame in losing at champions Napoli last time out, but losses against Monza, Spezia, Bologna, Empoli and Udinese would normally have seen Inzaghi axed. Fortunately, he has presided over some glorious cup results and being some 20 points behind Napoli could well be masked by a cup treble.
Inter are 20/21 to get the job done, but those domestic slip ups make them dangerous to support. What does seem more likely is that there will be goals and both teams to score and over 2.5 goals looks the way to go.
Inter have 25 goals in their last seven matches, with both teams scoring in three of those, while the Viola have seen 23 goals in their last seven games with both teams hitting the target in four of those matches.
