Everton vs Sheffield Utd tips and predictions: Blades set to break unwanted Premier League record

Sheffield United could enter the history books this weekend as they travel to Merseyside for Saturday afternoon clash against Everton (1500 BST).

There have been some abject Premier League campaigns over the years. We all remember Derby County from 2007/08. Huddersfield endured a stinker back in 2018/19. Sunderland have had a couple of dire seasons as well.

No matter how bad those campaigns were, none of the teams just mentioned conceded 100 goals. Not even close.

The same cannot be said about Sheffield United. Chris Wilder’s men have endured one of the worst Premier League campaigns of all time, with the team conceding their 100th goal last week following a 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.

That defeat moved the Blades level with Swindon who held the record for the most goals conceded in a single Premier League season with 100. Important side note – Swindon’s record was set during a 42-match season.

United are just one goal away from setting the new record and bearing in mind their form, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Blades have conceded 16 goals across their last four games – an average of four a game.

Everton, on the other hand, are in the midst of a four-match unbeaten run which includes three victories.

The Toffees may not have much to play for but they have enough quality to give the home fans something to cheer.

We’re backing the hosts to turn on the style and win by a comfortable margin. Everton in the handicap market is the way to go.

Team news

Everton head into the match without Dele Alli, Vitali Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, will be missing George Baldock, Chris Basham, Tom Davies, John Egan, Daniel Jebbinson, Max Lowe, Ollie McBurnie and Rhys Norrington-Davies.
