    Team news

With Callum Robinson out of the Ireland squad, it was Brighton's Evan Ferguson who started up front against Latvia last Wednesday.
The forward marked his third international appearance with his maiden international goal and he could reappear for the visit of France. Fellow attackers Troy Parrott and Michael Obafemi are also in contention.
Captain Seamus Coleman was not involved in the friendly and his status remains under questioning ahead of Monday.
France, on the other hand, will be led by newly named captain Kylian Mbappe.
Antoine Griezmann and 36-year-old Olivier Giroud are also expected to take part in the trip to Dublin.
Didier Deschamps will be without Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane who have both retired from international football.
There are also injury issues in the squad as Wesley Fofana and William Saliba have both withdrawn from camp.
Mike Maignan, meanwhile, is expected to feature in goal following the international retirement of Hugo Lloris.

    Recent form

Republic of Ireland enter Monday's big game in decent form following a string of positive results.
Stephen Kenny's side have won three of their last four outings, including a 3-2 victory over Latvia on Wednesday.
Ireland have lost just two of their last seven games, with Norway and Scotland picking up 2-1 wins over Kenny's men.
France, on the other hand, endured a heart-breaking end to 2022 following their World Cup final defeat to Argentina.
The 4-3 loss in Qatar was their fifth defeat from 15 games that year - an unusually high amount for Les Bleus.

    What has been said?

Ireland boss Stephen Kenny on the challenge of facing France: "When we got the draw initially, we understood the magnitude of it, France, Holland, Greece and Gibraltar in the group.
"We understand the difficulty with that, but it also provides an opportunity and it's quite exciting to have France coming here.
"France have been the best team in the world over a period now because they won the World Cup in 2018 and then obviously lost recently on penalties to win consecutive World Cups.
"They've been a phenomenal team, so them coming here to Dublin, we view it as an opportunity also. We've been building our own team for the last couple of years for this campaign and we're excited by that."
France captain Kylian Mbappe on reported issues with teammate Antoine Griezmann after missing out on skipper selection: "I spoke with Antoine. He was disappointed and that's understandable. I told him I'd have had the same reaction.
"He's perhaps the most important player in the Deschamps era. He has the experience. If he has something to say, I'll sit down and listen."

    Verdict

Seven years on from their 1-0 win over Italy at Euro 2016, Ireland fans are yet to see their nation defeat a top tier international opponent.
The Irish national side is in the midst of a rebuilding process and it's fair to say that recent years have been tough.
Considering their recent form and the quality of players available, it's no surprise to see the hosts priced as big underdogs.
France haven't lost against Ireland since 1981 and they will be intent on continuing that unbeaten run this Monday night.
With a star studded squad to his disposal, Deschamps will be demanding a commanding win as he seeks to send a message to the rest of the qualifying group.
While recent head-to-head encounters have been relatively low scoring, our recommendation is to back the French to win in style.
The visitors to score over 2.5 goals and Kylian Mbappe to get on the scoresheet are the two main tips.
Both teams to score seems a tad ambitious, though Ireland have scored at least once in their last seven games and you would expect them to come up with some attacking opportunities on home soil.
