Euro 2024 – Favourites emerge and underdogs surprise

European trophy - Euro 24

Euro 2024 has reached fever pitch as the quarter-finals approach, leaving fans and those betting on the tournament on the edge of their seats.

This prestigious competition, hosted by Germany, has delivered some thrilling matches, unexpected twists and standout performances so far.

As we bid farewell to half the teams, the tournament has taken shape with the familiar powerhouses and a couple of plucky underdogs thrown into the mix. Even some teams haven't lived up to expectations...we are looking at you England.

For those betting on the Euros, the tournament has provided a rollercoaster ride of shifting odds and unexpected outcomes, from Italy's shocking early exit to Turkey's surprising run to the quarter-finals.

France, despite some unconvincing performances, secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Belgium thanks to a late own goal. England, co-favorites alongside France, saved their skins in a dramatic 2-1 win over Slovakia, courtesy of a last-gasp equaliser from Jude Bellingham and an extra-time winner from Harry Kane.

Germany, buoyed by home support, overcame Denmark 3-0 in a convincing display. Spain showcased their attacking prowess with a 4-1 victory over Georgia, while Portugal needed penalties to edge past Slovenia with Cristiano Ronaldo missing a spot-kick in extra time, which brought plenty of tears...from him.

Turkey continued their impressive run by defeating Austria 2-1, while the Netherlands cruised past Romania with a comfortable 3-0 win.

As Euro 2024 progresses, the favorites have shifted. The impressive Spain and the unconvincing England, both priced at +400, have emerged as co-favorites, a change from the pre-tournament predictions.

Germany, with odds of +450, have capitalised on home advantage. The host nation's strong showing has solidified their position as serious contenders.

France, at +450, remain in the mix despite some shaky performances. Their depth and tournament experience make them a formidable force. Portugal, priced at +750, have also impressed, with their blend of experience and youth making them dark horses for the title.

Two teams have exceeded expectations at Euro 2024: Turkey and Switzerland. Turkey, under Vincenzo Montella's guidance, have reached the quarter-finals with impressive victories over Austria and the Czech Republic. Switzerland, meanwhile, shocked Italy in the Round of 16 and have shown remarkable teamwork throughout the tournament.

Quarter-final previews:

Spain vs Germany: A clash of titans in Stuttgart. Key players to watch are Rodri for Spain and Kai Havertz for Germany. Spain's flawless record gives them a slight edge, but Germany's home advantage could be decisive.

Portugal vs France: A repeat of the Euro 2016 final in Hamburg. Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe will be crucial for their respective teams. France's tournament experience gives them a slight edge, but both teams have shown vulnerabilities.

England vs Switzerland: England face a resilient Swiss side in Dusseldorf. Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham will be key for England, while Switzerland will look to build on their upset of Italy. England's superior attacking talent should see them through.

Netherlands vs Turkey: An intriguing battle in Berlin. Cody Gakpo and Merih Demiral will be pivotal. The Netherlands' impressive Round of 16 performance makes them favorites, but Turkey's resilience could spring another surprise.

Predictions: Spain, France, England and the Netherlands to advance
