Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United tips and predictions: Hidden gem of desperation at Selhurst Park

Nathaniel Clyne of Crystal Palace
Sheffield United’s bid to avoid relegation continues away in the capital as they take on a struggling Crystal Palace side.
Tuesday night in the Premier League has a number of promising offerings. Nottingham Forest against Arsenal should be a cracker. The same goes for Aston Villa against Newcastle. But what about Palace and Sheffield United?
In truth, this whole fixture has a putrid stench of desperation. On one hand, you have a Palace side who are out of form and, if you listen to the fans, out of ideas for the future.
The club are meandering in the bottom half of the table with little ambition or determination to push on.
We’re not saying the Eagles should all of a sudden fight for the title, but come on. Give us a new signing, a decent cup run, a new beer in the concession area… something to lighten the mood.
On the other hand, you have Sheffield United. The Blades have made little to no impact in the Premier League since their promotion. They have been as blunt as a divorce lawyer, but perhaps a tad less expensive.
Maybe if they had splashed a bit of cash in the transfer market, the South Yorkshire outfit wouldn’t be sitting bottom of the table with 10 points from 21 games. Then again, the words ‘spending’ and ‘Yorkshire’ are rarely seen in the same sentence.
All this sounds rather negative, but do you remember what your maths teacher said in Year 10? Two negatives always make a positive. And that should be the case at Selhurst Park.
Both teams need something positive, both need points and both need a win. All those ingredients should culminate in an intriguing clash.
Looking at this from a betting perspective, we’ve backing both teams to get on the scoresheet.
Sheffield United have received the second most bookings in the league, so make sure to stick the Blades with the most cards in this game on that betting slip too.
Team news
Crystal Palace will be without Cheick Doucoure, Rob Holding, Michael Olise and Joel Ward, while Jesuran Rak-Sakyi remains a doubt.
Sheffield, on the other hand, will be missing George Baldock, Chris Basham, Rhian Brewster, John Egan and Daniel Jebbinson. Tom Davies and Max Lowe are both doubts.
