Social Zone Transfer Deadline Special: Chris Richards, Jozy Altidore, Aaron Long

All the latest transfers on as the clock ticks down to the window closing, including moves for Chris Richards, Bryan Reynolds, Daryl Dike and potential trades for Jozy Altidore, Aaron Long and more.

23:10 (GMT): Signing off

Thank you for following today's live blog of transfer deadline day. There have been a few deals completed today and you can look back throughout today's posts to see who's been on the move.

23:05 (GMT): Done deal for Rodriguez

UD Almeria in the Spanish second division have confirmed the signing of Brian Rodriguez from LAFC on loan initially, with an option to buy.

23:00 (GMT): The transfer window is shut!

The January (and first day of February) transfer window is now closed. If transfer paperwork has been approved by any respective league prior to 11pm GMT, clubs are allowed to get the deals over the line.
There may be some moves to be finished yet, but no others can happen from now until the summer.

22:49 (GMT): A late move for Rodriguez?

UD Almeria of the Spanish second tier are set to announce a late signing, which reports suggest will be LAFC's 20-year-old Uruguayan winger Brian Rodriguez.

No announcement for Paul Arriola yet at Swansea either and time is running out.

22:39 (GMT): Into the final furlong

Just 20 minutes to go in this window and nothing has budged on the trade front for Paul Arriola or Jozy Altidore, with the clock ticking down until the window shuts. Not long to go now.

22:10 (GMT): Long looking likely to stay put

After multiple reports linking center back Aaron Long to a move to Europe in the January window, it looks as though New York Red Bulls have put paid to the idea of him leaving.

Long had been mooted as a late link to Premier League champions Liverpool as the Reds look to strengthen central defence, following injuries to three key players in that position.

Following the arrival of Ben Davies from Preston North End in the Championship, however, it looks like the defensive vacancy at Anfield has been filled for now.

21:57 (GMT): Swansea signing may put Arriola deal in doubt

Swansea City have announced the arrival of Derby County and England U-20 winger Morgan Whittaker, which may well complicate a deal for Paul Arriola as the players take up the same position - although Arriola can also be used as a wing back. We'll wait and see if his trade gets over the line as well.

21:45 (GMT): Find out more about DeAndre Yedlin

Galatasaray supporters will look forward to welcoming their new signing who has already racked up 62 USMNT caps aged just 27. Here's an interview he did with the US Soccer YouTube channel a couple of years ago as you find out more about the full back.
Here he is with a suspiciously British accent from his time with Newcastle:

21:10 (GMT): What has happened so far today?

There was a flurry of transfer activity this afternoon involving US-based talent. Here's what's happened so far:
Bryan Reynolds moved from FC Dallas to AS Roma, taking the 19-year-old to one of the biggest teams in Italy initially on loan, making the move permanent in the summer.

Chris Richards has moved across the Bundesliga to Hoffenheim, as the 20-year-old hopes to gain senior experience as he joins on loan from Bayern Munich.

Daryl Dike has swapped Orlando for Yorkshire as he joined Barnsley FC of England's Championship on loan for the remainder of the English season.
DeAndre Yedlin accounts for the biggest move of the day so far, joining Turkish giants Galatasaray on a long-term deal from Newcastle United of the Premier League.
Still time for other deals to go through, but not much of it left.

20:40 (GMT): All quiet on the transfer front

A move for Aaron Long looks increasingly unlikely before the deadline shuts, but the finishing touches for a move to England (Wales) for Paul Arriola to Swansea City appear to be happening as we speak.

There are yet to be further moves of interest to followers of US soccer, but there were reasons to be cheerful for a youthful USMNT side who beat Trinidad and Tobago 7-0 last night - with Arriola netting two goals on the night.

Miles Robinson has posted about his delight at starting for his country's senior team for the first time.

20:00 (GMT): Three hours to go...

Right, three hours remain in the January window and there are still potential deals to be done:
Paul Arriola looks set to put pen to paper with Swansea City in the English Championship, seeing him move on loan from D.C. United until the end of the English season in May.
LAFC's Diego Rossi also appears in demand by RB Leipzig in Germany but LA are reportedly unwilling to sell for anything less than $18million, which may see a late move unlikely.

Jozy Altidore may still make a move away from Toronto FC but time is running out for him to do so, while a potential move to Europe for New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long appears to be fading.

19:38 (GMT): LAFC add a goalkeeper to their roster

Tomas Romero has just been announced as Los Angeles FC's newest signing, having joined from Philadelphia Union for $50,000 of General Allocation Money and LAFC have also acquired his MLS Homegrown Rights.
The 20-year-old will bolster LAFC's ranks and he registered seven shutouts in his freshman year at Georgetown University.

19:21 (GMT): Arriola loan move looks likely

Paul Arriola's potential journey to Swansea City looks like it's progressing. With D.C. United's major shareholder Jason Levien also being a co-owner of Swansea, it looks as though the clubs are keeping it in the family when it comes to player transfers.

Three-and-a-half hours to go to get the deal done for the USMNT player.

19:01 (GMT): Away from trades for a second...

To focus on the American soccer landscape for a moment, the USL have announced that a new team will be entering the USL Championship in 2022: Monterey Bay FC.

Monterey will join Queensboro FC in the league in the same year, with the league continuing to expand.

18:37 (GMT): Daryl Dike is ready to go at Barnsley FC

Daryl Dike may have to bring some warm clothes with him to Barnsley as he moves from Florida, with the average temperature in Yorkshire at this time of year ranging between 37°F and 44°F...
But he could get his first chance to impress in England this weekend against Derby County in the Championship.

18:20 (GMT): Another potential move for a USMNT player

D.C. United and US Men's National Team winger Paul Arriola could be making a move to the English league system (albeit in Wales) by heading to Championship side Swansea City on loan.

The 25-year-old has been capped 35 times by his country and a move could well be confirmed by the deadline. One to keep an eye on this evening as the clock ticks...

17:53 (GMT): Rossi unlikely to head to Reading FC

It looks as though LAFC's Diego Rossi is unlikely to head to England, as a local reporter in Reading claims that a proposed move to the Royals in England's second tier won't be happening. RB Leipzig are reportedly still interested, however...

17:27 (GMT): Galatasaray confirm DeAndre Yedlin move

The speedy defender, and man of many haircuts, has signed for the Turkish side on a long-term deal.

17:06 (GMT): Daryl Dike joins Barnsley on loan

Fresh from his first international cap in USA's 7-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, the 20-year-old striker has swapped Orlando City for Barnsley in the English Championship. Barnsley is just like Orlando isn't it?!?!?

16:43 (GMT): Few rumors starting to bubble up around Los Angeles FC star Diego Rossi.

English Championship side Reading FC and Bundesliga's RB Leipzig are circling the highly-rated Uruguayan striker. However, he won't be cheap, LA will want at least $18million for him.

16:27 (GMT): Moises Caicedo has officially joined Brighton in the Premier League.

That ends any hopes Atlanta United had of grabbing the Ecuador international.

16:10 (GMT): It's finally been nailed down, Bryan Reynolds is an AS Roma player.

The-19-year-old, joins from FC Dallas on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The loan deal is worth €100,000, but Roma have an option to make the transfer permanent for an initial fee of €6.75 million.

16:00 (GMT): Seven hours to go on deadline day, Here's a quick round-up of where we are so far.

Chris Richards is the biggest switch of the day at the moment. The USA international defender has joined Hoffenheim from Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the season.

We are still waiting for updates on for Bryan Reynolds to AS Roma and DeAndre Yedlin to Galatasaray from Newcastle. Both are undergoing medicals.

Otherwise it's very quiet out there. COVID-19 is making a lot of clubs very wary about dipping their hands in their pockets. However, one or two big moves could spark a late rush. Stick with Planet Sport for all the latest.

15:09 (GMT): Early afternoon lull in the transfer market, before the evening panic sets in.

Good time to recap USMNT's seven goals against Trinidad and Tobago last night. Great debuts for Matt Turner, Aaron Herrera, Andres Perea, Daryl Dike, George Bello and Tanner Tessmann

14:55 (GMT): The pen is still hovering over Bryan Reynolds' switch to AS Roma

The 19-year-old fullback is expected to join the Italian Serie A club on loan from FC Dallas. He has been spotted in the Eternal City.

14:35 (GMT): Flashback to when Altidore helped shoot down Manchester City

Jozy Altidore seems to have been around for so long it's easy to forget he's only 31. Eleven years ago, the USMNT forward, who is on the brink of a move away from Toronto FC, was helping down Manchester City while at Hull.

14:14 (GMT): Richards completes loan switch to TSG Hoffenheim

Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards has confirmed his loan switch to TSG Hoffenheim.

14:00 (GMT): Yedlin move to Galatasaray held up

DeAndre Yedlin was expected to join Galatasaray from Newcastle United today after flying in to Turkey last night for a medical. However, it appears the deal isn't as cut and dried as first thought.

13:43 (GMT): Schalke 04 confirm Hoppe contract

Official confirmation of Matthew Hoppe's contract signing at Schalke 04. The 19-year-old said the last few weeks had been "like a dream".

13:23 (GMT): Caballero to remain on the fringes at Chelsea

Looks like a potential MLS move for Willy Caballero has been scuppered by Chelsea.

13:18 (GMT): Hoppe commits to Schalke 04

Confirmation in from Germany that Matthew Hoppe is about to sign a contract extension at Schalke 04, committing him to the club until 2023 even in the event of relegation.

12:55 (GMT): Atlanta United target heading to Brighton

Atlanta United have been beaten to the signature of 19-year-old Ecuadorian Moises Caicedo, with Brighton & Hove Albion all set to wrap up the signing today according to the BBC. The Seagulls beat off competition from a number of clubs, including the MLS side and this is what the Brighton fans have to look forward to.

12:32 (GMT): Reid leaving West Ham for Brentford

Winston Reid, who made 10 appearances for Sporting Kansas City last season, is on his way out from West Ham on loan again, this time joining Brentford in the Championship.
