Real Madrid news: Luka Modric returns injured from international break sparking El Clasico fears

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has returned to the club from international duty nursing an injury.

The Croatia captain played for the entire 90 minutes in both wins against Denmark and Austria recently.

According to Diario AS, the 37-year-old is suffering from a muscle overload to his hip and is expected to be out of action for around about 10 days.

This now means that the midfielder is likely to miss the La Liga game against Osasuna on Sunday and the UEFA Champions League tie with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday at Santiago Bernabeu.

Should recovery go as planned, Modric will return for the El Clasico against Barcelona on 16 October in Madrid.

However, should the midfielder fail to return on-time, Los Blancos will have to contend without their experienced head in the middle of the park.

Despite his age (37), Modric remains a key member the team as no other midfielder comes near to what he provides for his side, since joining in 2012 from Tottenham.

Modric's success at Real Madrid shows just how influential he has been, having won - three La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey once, the Supercopa de España four times, UEFA Champions League on five occasions, three UEFA Super Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2014,2016, 2017 and in 2018.
