Real Madrid face passport issues as move for Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is cast into doubt

Real Madrid appear to have hit a major hurdle in their pursuit of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs during the transfer window as he looks for a fresh start away from the Etihad stadium. 

Jesus scored just 13 goals in 41 appearances for Manchester City last season - one goal less than in the previous campaign.

With Pep Guardiola already securing the signature of Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland, Jesus could see his playing time cut should he remain with the Premier League champions.

One team linked with the Brazilian is Real Madrid, however passport issues could scupper a potential £50million deal.
According to current La Liga regulations, each team is allowed to have up to three non-EU players on the pitch.
Those three spots are likely to be filled by Militao, Vinicius and Rodrygo - something that casts a fresh net of doubt over the possible move for Jesus.

While the three players in question could obtain dual nationality, none of the trio will complete the process until January, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

What's more, there are also two other non-EU nationals in the squad, with Takefusa Kubo and Reinier Jesus looking to fight for a place in the team.

Another potential option for Jesus is a summer move to Arsenal. The Gunners are in need of attacking talent following the recent departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.

Mikel Arteta's men are desperate to strengthen for the upcoming campaign as they target their first top-four finish since the 2015/16 season.
