Liverpool v Southampton: Prediction, tips and bet builder as Reds outscore Saints in entertaining affair

Alisson Becker of Liverpool

Today's bet builder tips feature Liverpool to beat Southampton in an entertaining Premier League clash at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool's 1-0 win at PSG is in the history books, and no doubt they'll be dusted off and marvelled at for decades to come.

It was a famous night in Paris where Alisson put on the display of his life and Harvey Elliot, with his first touches, scored a famous winning goal.

It's back to the bread and butter of the Premier League on Saturday, as the Reds host a Southampton side destined for a speedy return to the Championship.

Today's bet builder is priced at 7/2 at the time of writing.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

Liverpool could open a 16-point gap ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Man Utd on Sunday, while the Saints are still trying to breach the 10-point mark with nine games remaining.

Saturday’s game at Anfield should be a procession on paper, though a tiring trip to Paris spent mostly on the back foot may affect Arne Slot’s side.

He has the option of rotation with Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliot, Wataru Endo and Kostas Tsimikas among those who could deputise.

Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson had standout games at the back in Parc des Princes, but Mo Salah was probably the most anonymous player on the night.

That may not bode well for the Saints, a side he’s registered nine goals and four assists against across 12 starts. He bagged a brace when the sides met earlier this season.

He's also scored or assisted in 11 consecutive Premier League appearances at Anfield.

Ivan Juric has decisions to make on who starts at the back and in midfield, but nothing the Croatian does seems to make any difference.

They’ve lost four on the spin and nine of 10 in the Premier League. The manner of their defeats against Chelsea (4-0), Brighton (4-0), and Bournemouth (3-1) was that of a team that’s beyond revival.

Slot spoke about the importance of the fans lifting the side during a tough game this weekend, but we think the Reds will be recovered enough, and good enough, to make light work of this fixture.

They haven’t hammered many teams at Anfield this season but, notably, five of the previous seven games in which they won and scored three or more came against promoted teams.

Burnley, Luton and Sheffield United were outscored 10-3 here last season, with Leicester losing 3-1 on Boxing Day and Ipswich falling 4-1 in January.

Juric’s side have leaked at least three goals in their last seven Premier League defeats, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see that trend continue.

It’s also hard to ignore the fact the Reds have conceded in seven of eight against newly-promoted teams at Anfield and recently, have saved their clean sheets for the big boys.
