Leeds United: Georginio Rutter withdraws from international duty as club provides injury update

Leeds have announced forward Georginio Rutter requires minor hernia surgery and has withdrawn from the France Under-21s squad.

The Sky Bet Championship promotion-chasers are hoping the 21-year-old club-record signing will be available for their Easter weekend league game at Watford later this month.

Leeds said: “The forward has been suffering with a hernia problem for a number of weeks, which has been carefully managed, and the club will now use the international break to address the issue fully.

“Surgery allows a return to play in approximately 10 days and all being well, he could be in contention for the Easter Sky Bet Championship fixtures against Watford and Hull City.”

Leeds, who beat Millwall on Sunday to go top of the table for the first time this season, are next in action against Watford on Good Friday (March 29) and face Hull at home on Easter Monday (April 1).

Rutter, who Leeds signed from Hoffenheim in January 2023 for a reported fee which could rise to £36million, has been in impressive form for Daniel Farke’s side this season.

He has featured in all bar one of Leeds’ 37 league matches, scoring six goals and providing 17 assists.
