Chiefs vs Eagles betting preview
Andy Reid’s Chiefs are bidding to become the first team in league history to officially win the Super Bowl three times in a row.
We have to give an honorary mention to the Green Bay Packers, who twice recorded three wins in a row, most recently winning the Championship game in 1965 and Super Bowl I and II in 1966 and 1967.
Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts was probably the battle we all wanted to see on Sunday, as his Eagles offence form part of the best team the Chiefs has ever faced in a Super Bowl.
Two of Philly’s losses came in the opening weeks of the season, one of which should have arguably been a win, as a dropped past saw them go down 22-21 to the Atlanta Falcons.
Since their bye week, Philly are on a 15-1 run.
Despite their dominance, it’s hard to argue that Mahomes and Hurts operate on a different level, even in a season where Kansas’ quarterback hasn’t been at his best.
That hasn’t prevented him from doing what he does in the playoffs. Mahomes has comfortably outperformed his regular season averages and will no doubt be eyeing up history.
Graphics have surfaced recently comparing his stats to an early Tom Brady and while arguments about who is better may be premature, winning a fourth Super Bowl and three in a row would move him a step closer to fair comparisons.
On the other hand, the Eagles' offence is all about the run game.
Only the Ravens did a better job of moving the ball on the ground than the Eagles, who logged over 3,000 yards, a total 1,200 greater than Sunday’s opponents.
The Chiefs have never allowed a player to rush for 1000+ yards against them in a playoff game, but if anyone can do it, it looks like this version of Saquon Barkley is capable.
While the run game can eat the clock and pose a scoring threat, their defence is more than capable of slowing down Mahomes if it’s at its best.
Philly’s opponents were held to an average of 189 passing yards this season.
